Hirano's new manga - Drifters

Postby SailorPtah on Sun Apr 19, 2009 3:56 pm

AnimeNewsNetwork had a report on Hirano's next manga back in January. It's due to launch this April.

The title is reportedly "Drifters."

Anyone want to take bets on how many of Hellsing's character designs will be recycled...?

Chapter 1 is out!

Downloads here. Scanned!

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

Starts off kind of unimpressive. A lot of familiar poses - hunched shoulders and wild grins that we've seen on Hellsing characters - and big battle scenes, lots of spears and dramatic poses and horses and shouting. Aaaand then in the last couple of pages our hero gets thrown into some kind of alternate universe. Consider me suddenly intrigued.

Main character reminds me a lot of the Captain, from the eyes to the way he moves in battle.

Looks like this could be Hirano's take on the "figures plucked from time to perform important tasks" genre, ala Gantz or Fate/Stay Night. I'm curious what he does with it.

Main character reminded me of the Captain as well... Probably the most around page 16. I hope to see more things explained in next chapter.

I think he said he's going to finish it all at once in one big lump. So it's going to be a while.

Agreed! I got a definite "Schroe" vibe from one of them. I think the face plus the ears did it. Not quite as shouta-riffic, but close.

The female archer screams "Yumie," only less psycho, and Hirano's design of Nobunaga is Dark Walter with a Vlad beard. You could make a drinking game of this...

The May issue of Shonengahosha's Young King Ours magazine has announced on Monday the title and story setting of the next work from Hellsing creator Kouta Hirano. and I was announced Generic Viagra excelents results Drifters will center around a band of adventurers from Japan's sengoku jidai, the era of the warring states known internationally for inspiring many samurai stories. The magazine announced in January that Hirano will launch the new series in the June issue on April 30. Hirano ended Hellsing in the same magazine last September after 11 years. He had originally said in a June 12 blog entry last year that he was planning a fantasy work and a one-shot mystery story set in the early Showa era (after 1926) after he finishes Hellsing.

And we have Girlycard! And this time it's with a confirmed female, named "Easy."

The other notable inclusion is Alucard re-purposed as one half of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Also looks like we have our main villain finally revealed.

My guesses for the next drifters would be Cyrus the Great, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Richard the Lionheart, or Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. If there are any naval battles I would guess Yi Sun-sin or Horatio Nelson.

Check it out, another Hellsing character design, but this time not from the manga. Hirano decided to give us his take on Laura from the TV anime. (That's what I think she looks like, anyway.) I'm sure Erin will appreciate it.
