They cast the Avatar movie.

I don't think the characters look all that Asian. Yes, all their clothing and hairstyles and rituals are pretty Asian, but their eyes are all blue and green and yellow. The Anime style is often similar when representing different races, and even though we associate the style with Asia, it isn't that specific. Plus it's already inconsistent, so they might as well cast someone who won't look freakish with yellow contacts.

Asian or not, I still think if you're going to make a spin-off off of something that ALREADY exists in a visual medium (Like, Harry Potter they could pretty much choose what they want because people didn't KNOW what he looks like, but this is a running show which means people have characters they are familiar with) you need to get actors who look like the character.
And
Again

What are they going to do, dip a teacloth in coffee and smear it on her face?
It's not even color, its the face in general. Maybe its fanboyish, and of course this is Hollywood yada yada but it doesn't mean I can't gripe that with all these kids wanting to be child actors, and as others have said with the possibility of using untapped talent from the countries the Nations represent, that THESE are the kids they chose.

Hey, the movie is going to suck. Period. Mostly white cast just makes it suck in a more hilarious way.

Actors are always being chosen by looks, that's part of their job descriptions, because they have to visually represent characters. How they look is a part of their ability, James Earl Jones wouldn't be able to play a white character no matter how good actor he is.Mvmarcz wrote:I really don't see the big deal. I think it would be wrong to choose actors based on race and not ability. I mean that's the definition of discrimination isn't it? It's fiction c'mon I'm sure the movie will be awful for completely different reasons.
To find Asian characters who speak english wouldn't be too difficult. After all, plenty of Asian countries have developed film industries and very talented actors. 'Course, it's imperative in Hollywood that main characters and heroes always have to be white, blue-eyes, handsome caucasians and that's a completely different issue. It's usually tolerable because, hey, Bollywood films always have Indian main characters too, but here where characters were established before Hollywood got to them - it's plain inconsistent.

They should have made an animated movie instead of trying to make it live action. I just don't understand the need to have a live action movie of a good cartoon.834n wrote:Hey, the movie is going to suck. Period. Mostly white cast just makes it suck in a more hilarious way.

They should make a movie of "Lost," but make it animated.Vorticus wrote:They should have made an animated movie instead of trying to make it live action. This is exactly how I feel. I would really rather laugh at a total bomb of a movie than feel upset by something that's just mediocre.834n wrote:Hey, the movie is going to suck. Period. Mostly white cast just makes it suck in a more hilarious way.

If you haven't already, you just have to see The Happening.Keffria wrote:I would really rather laugh at a total bomb of a movie than feel upset by something that's just mediocre.
Shyamalan is going to have to work hard to top that one.
