It is possible to shade in illustrator provided you have live trace (or a lot of patience) and you don't mind using either cell shading or line/dot patterns.

Laying down flat blacks is a nightmare, I did it in the first panel and then decided to say screw it and exported to photoshop. Illustrator is very lovely for inking lineart, but for the other aspects of my inking it's not very useful.

Damn, I went through a bucket hat phase. I even had a tie die one... with buttons on it... eugh..
I'm glad 90's style forum signatures don't exist anymore.
