How's your life atm?

Post by ShannC »

Here's the official forumite "livejournal thread" in case you want to disclose personal info and feed your ego without hijacking another discussion. :D

Me: I'm a month into this russian course at the university and doing ok still. I think I've mastered the Ryan-console game problem so things look a lot better. Still, the workload is fiendish but it has it's upsides. I feel I actually learn more since I have to frequently think more in russian every day than before. I sincerely hope to reach as far as acceptable fluency by the end of the semester because there might be a job lined up come winter, dealing with russian guests in a region far north in Sweden. They're opening fashion stores there as the russian demand for fashion is quite high, and it's more convenient for the Murmansk people to visit Haparanda rather than Stockholm or Helsinki. Albeit a bit scary, it seems like a good merit for me.

My dating frequency has dropped to zero since summer because of the workload. Although I still go on World of Warcraft raids three evenings a week. It's actually not so easy to prioritise as non-nerds would think!

Just kind of here. My life is alright I guess. Could be better though, but I have to do something about that first.

Well, it's my birthday, so I am now legal. But I have a nasty cold too, and that sucks. Otherwise, things are alright.

My chemistry class is getting to be overwhelming because the professor is shitty, but I found someone to study/do homework with. Hopefully, through teamwork, we can figure it out. Other than that, my classes are going fine and I've made a lot of new friends. In fact, I like my new friends significantly better than most of my friends back home. My biggest problem is finding a good balance between social time and study time.

Outside of college, I don't have much of a life. :D

Work continues to suck. I'm getting very little actual training done due to staff shortages stretching everything. The general public continue to be retards.

Also, my fiancé's joining the US army. I'm insanely conflicted over the whole thing.

I hate doing this...

Pretty bad. I should have a job, or at least be doing something right now, but I'm not. Without a working car, I can't do as much, certainly can't find a job, not in this small town as is. Can't at least visit the only 2 friends I have, not that I hardly see them anyway. They all have busy lives, so of course I'm last on their priorities. I have things to do too. Like help my grandparents out. Buy them groceries, pay their bills, check their mail, etc. It can get really overwhelming cause they put too much on me, but it's alright. It would be easier if I weren't sleeping on the couch. I did have a room of my own briefly, for like 3 months. But then Hurricane Dolly happened, my sister's apartment got flooded, and she came back and kicked me out. I've spent too much time isolated mostly. Too much time alone staring at a computer screen or walking/running through town at night. Just keeping to myself.

But besides all that, I'm pretty good. I just have to keep on going.

Things are good. My wife and I just bought a car to replace her old one. That's all the news I have.

Join the club. I understand his reasoning (he's aiming to train as a specialist so he'll have transferable skills after the three years) and I fully support him but I'm not looking forward to the reduced contact, the fact I'll have to be extremely careful to avoid 'don't ask, don't tell' and the very real possibility he'll be deployed in an active warzone...

Hmmm....I'd say terrible. I just had to quit my English because my course load is insane since I'm taking AP Calc (may not sound like a lot, but there are only 2 AP classes in my school), SUNY Albany French, and Physics, which goes with the calc, among other things. The class I joined that caused all this may now be compromised because the teacher got accused of Inappropriate behavior with a student. The normal "Omg I'm not going to get into any of my colleges because I suck/too expensive/I suck." pressure. I have no idea if I've gotten everything in good order or not. I found out that not only am I second in my 40-person class, but that I would miss taking an honors course at college by .6 points. My average is going to suck since I have to take classes I suck at because college think it's better to suck at it even though I may not get into them if I do them. My SATs are lot more shit than I thought, and my ACTs aren't much better. I can't figure out my first colleges anymore, and almost all of them seem like I'll miss because of something I will have no idea I did or will have done. My self esteem is slowly going down the dream. I''m trying to grow a beard, but I don't think it'll work. Oh, and the septic system here just broke.

Yeah, happy, happy, happy days...

I'm fine. I'm a bit bogged down by bank and insurance paperwork ATM - it's no big deal, really, there are just other things I'd rather spend time and energy doing. On the whole, life's good.

I'd like to say something constructive here, but all I can think of is "wait, what". I'm curious as to how this'll work out relationship-wise, but I understand that's not really a subject for public discussion...

Mine is really pretty good right now.

I like my job still after four months. I think..I think I'm finally starting to lose weight. I peaked at 222 lbs 3 weeks ago and yesterday I was at 219. I don't look overweight to other people, but I'm 15 lbs over my maximum healthy weight and I'm sick of my pants being tight.

I'm getting close to done on my second comix project(still takes too damn long for me though-but I have nobody to blame but myself).

I'm going to Rainfurrest 2008 up in Seattle one week from Friday.

Wish I could have a big dog, but my circumstances would have to be radically different to pull that off.

On the balance, my life is good(but trust me, it took long enough!).

I'd say, let's hope Obama successfully pulls out of Iraq and that your friend gets stationed in former Yugoslavia, Petersburg at some cushy consulate place where nothing is really required except getting drunk and sit on your ass when you're on duty.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for too, not least because getting to mainland Europe's cheaper than America

And Paul, feel free for public discussion. Having someone to talk to about all this may help stop my head exploding

Engineering, though he also keeps looking at the special forces, which I seriously hope is just him getting carried away

Exactly, you could see him if that's the case. I think they shut down operations in Northern Ireland and possibly even Berlin so even in the best case, it may not be anywhere near.

and yes, we can talk openly here yeah? Except if it's about real-doll collections in the basement, I doubt anyone really wanna know..

Well, personally I think joining any army is a bad idea. But I have friends who have served in the army and found it a good experience. Then again, none of them were ever in combat (if you discount fisticuffs with drunken soldiers from allied armies).

Is there a realistic chance your fiancé will ever land in a combat zone? I mean, if John McBush wins the election, I'll bet he'll do his best to attack Iran before the decade's over, but wouldn't becoming an engineer pretty much guarantee your fiancé will work behind the lines?

I have an American friend who's currently in the US Marine Corps. Despite the marines being what they are - the first to go in - she's never been in a combat zone. She's an interpreter, and tells me that even if she's shipped to Iraq or wherever, she very likely would end up working in an office.

Well, that's just a few thoughts.

The important thing is, what do you feel and think about it?
