Back when I was hosted on CG, I had an easy time because I was lucky and a friend that "made me" get a comic account helped me through it. It's easy once you get the hang of it. Someone will be along to help you soon.

Why shoot yourself when you can shoot other people instead? Let's be rational here.

Because shooting yourself is slightly more legal than shooting other people, of course.

Well, at least there are fewer repercussions to killing yourself.

Yeah, it takes a while to get the site up and going, and unless you're one of those people who are never satisfied and constantly changing your website design, you'll probably never touch your templates again.

I didn't have a big problem with Keenspace's setup. I just didn't fiddle with what I didn't understand. :D

It is rather easy, but if one has never done anything with directories and other web stuff, then it can be frustrating. I needed help getting my wordpress thing set up, which was rather easy in retrospect.

Yeah, I can see how having a webcomic be the first experience with using html can be a huge pain. You need to learn all the rules of html (which can be rather cryptic at the best of times) and then learn which of those rules to ignore because of the keentags,

Nightmaresky - if you need a hand with anything, pop over to the Help Center and ask. There's plenty of folks around who are willing to help people out. Or pm me if you want.

The whole thing can be pretty complicated even if you do know html. I pretty much rewrote the templates from scratch, and my head is still spinning.

Don't worry about it too much, though. The help forum is a great place if you something *really* goes wrong, and if you're patient you'll get the wrinkles smoothed out one by one.

You think setting up an account on CG is hard? Try setting up Autokeen when you have no idea what perl actually stands for--that's shoot-yourself-in-the-face frustrating.

Really 'though: just take it one step at a time. Make sure each thing works before you start building the next piece of the page--then go back and re-work it when the next piece screws it up somehow. And being methodical helps: do things the same way every time so if something works one place you'll know it'll work everywhere else.

I, on the other hand, go and fiddle with all the things I don't understand until I understand them. And I haven't blown up anything yet. (Well, nothing important anyway.)

HTML hates me ... if i look at my site wrong it breaks -- but i can upload my comic without any issue ( because smart FTP does all the hard stuff ) :(

i *wish* i understood what half of that i work in IT and work with SQL but that makes more sense than HTML - :D

Oh HECK yeah do I remember that initial confusion. I spent a solid week learning html, and about a month learning to code in notepad. FTP? Psh. Scared the crap outta me. Then I got Dreamweaver, and my life changed forever.

Looking back though, it was very easy. It was just new and frightening. Now coding is a cozy home.^^

If there's one thing I learned from Comic Genesis, it's patience. By the time you wind up doing some late-night tweaks on your site, and then discover that you have a couple thousand users in the queue and have to wait until morning to see if you broke anything, you'll know what I mean.

I do that anyway. Mostly because I draw during the day so my nights are open for video games. 8-)

You'll get used to it, and you'll get a lot better over time. I was lucky; I'd learned HTML a couple years beforehand, and although I was rusty when I started my comic, there was at least a base for me to work off of. I still haven't been able to submit a drawing of Genchan for some strange reason, though...

It's not the most user friendly site...but on the plus side it gives you a lot of freedom. No being restricted to a handful of templates around here. Just take your time...it's not like you have a deadline for getting a site up.

I do love the freedom that I can design a site how I want it, when I want it, rather than a generic template that usually looks awful *glares at the culprits* although I do agree that it can be a lot of work and in my case it's trial and error since I learnt HTML basics back in 2003!

I at least know how to do tables now. Onwards to the xml methinks.
