The Proposition.

An add to the top, perhaps several adds to the bottom, if they aren't slowing the loading time significantly. An add on the side, I think, takes a valuable space from my designated 1024 pixels (though I have those on GS as a company's policy) so I would avoid those if I could. No pop-ups, and I'd try to pick adds that don't screech, cause seasures or bark at you. So anything as long as it's not annoying or disrupting reading in any way.
If I was making a comic book, I'd really really like if adds were limited to inner sides of covers, and not placed in the middle of the comic.
As for product placement, no.

Yeah. Though if I were that guy I'd've done it too, because it's not like he has characters, and he's still doing free association, it just isn't ending in bloody death as often. He'd about style, not content, anyway.
Actually, no, he didn't. They ripped off the style, probably in part because the work of Don Hertzfeldt (the guy who did Rejected) is both very hip and very recognizable to certain circles. He was none too happy about it, actually. From his site's FAQ:
2.
Did you direct that terrible commercial I just saw on TV? It sort of looked like you drew it, if you were maybe partially retarded.

No. Don has never had anything to do with the production of a television commercial and has publicly vowed many times that he never will. Sadly, it seems to be the vogue these days for creatively bankrupt corporate types to rip off his work. This is why you may be noticing an abundance of vaguely familiar yet dreadful looking squiggly stick things on tv hawking Pop Tarts or cell phones. It was weird at first but now it's getting very irritating.
This also brings up a very interesting point. If they're interested in going through correct channels, and giving me gobs of money for usage rights, then I think I'd rather take advantage of that fact. Otherwise, and let's face a few facts here, they have the resources to just take what they want, change it a leeeetle bit, and call it "original", screwing me over, and gaining me nothing at all but a hit in the pocket book and in the reputation. It can happen, and, unfortunately, it does happen. So, take the money, and run!

all our base ...

(C) Zerowing and some japanese musicians and the engrish translator.

That's even been referenced in futurama.

I went and saw "Superhero movie" and it had piles of internet references in it in addition to the regular poking fun of superhero movies. It makes me wonder if they targeted at only the 15-30 group. Because some of these references are really recent... and as such the movie will be dated by the time it comes out on DVD.

Big surprise, you were the one having qualms about drawing your characters in underwear. :P {/quote]

Hey, I didn't make money on that, I did because I wanted to. Which makes me a slut.
mcDuffies wrote: I seem to have a different view of integrity. Every man chooses his own code of what's right or wrong. If someone's getting into the game with the notion of eventually earning money from licencing their characters, I'm not sure that we can say they have no integrity since they have their system of beliefs and they've been sticking to it the whole time.
Nah, that's about right. And some people's work is better suited to it than others.

While I think this kind of thing could be disastrous because of how people would then see your work, I wouldn't do it because of how I would then see my work. I dunno. $100,000 is plenty.

That's why Jim Davis is not a sellout. His whole plan for Garfield was to make mad money, and he succeeded where many have failed.

I'd take the million. To me, that's buying not only a nice home, but building my dream studio with it. If the character flounders down the road, I still have other comic ideas, and suddenly money to live off of, while I sit down and do nothing else but comics. Though I'm trying to imagine which character from Action Porn would be best for selling soda.

I wonder what happened to Orson's farm?

Anyways, it'd be the oddest thing to have my chars in advertisement, they aren't really the type. Especially when it seems they would probably be investigating whether VD doesn't really cause a disease or something of the type!

Well you can't say that he lost an inch of integrity.

CJ's comment reminds me, it's true that I treat my ideas very loosely, since I have books of unused ones, that I never got time to work on. I'm not even concearned about losing the punch of one of mu comics and it's characters, since I always think, hey, there's more where that came from. Actually I've never created a comic that I am totally happy with, and if my goal as an artist is to make a comic masterpiece of sorts, I'm not even anywhere near that goal. Which is pretty much why I'm not too protective of my comic comics.

Locked in some attic, being fed only fish heads.
It takes a stunning lack of good taste and insight to give such name to a funny comic.

I'd purchase nearly anything if Toy Division characters were selling it to me.

OK. That's not at all how it works for me. I'm far from satisfied with 8:1, but I simply couldn't hollow out my characters and have them shill soda, y'know? I mean, national exposure would mean nothing because there'd be so much that's vital missing from the thirty second spot. I dunno.
