If you're an attractive female you could always post a picture of yourself scantily clad on the front page somewhere. I'm sure you'll get a lot of attention that way too >.>.

Excellent point. The closest thing I've ever gotten to hatemail are the pissy reactions I got for posting a comic I made (using templates another webcomic creator made using his characters) on another forum.

If making a comic about Aunt Jemima choking on someone's "syrup" is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Reader contact will just eventually come. I don't use a tagboard anymore but it is useful in the beginning, easy access for them. I have a fairly active forum now, it's sorta something you build up to, offering forum activities or something can help to for make interesting topics. E-mail for me tends to come when they find something wrong or have a opinion to share, only occasionally is it just casual praise.

Then again my readers are pretty outgoing, one of them came to my door : P.

Only a small percentage of readers become active with the comic, so the more readers you get, the more activity you can eventually except to see.

i need to figure out how to get the shout box thingy to work - ive seen a few i like - even signed up for one
because like it was said earlyer - fourms dont really do much at first - other than gather dust :D

i feel happy ive got more than just me and the other 2 people ( editor and the "Doc" who wonderfully helped me set things up a year ago ) :)
is there ANY way to find a "dissected" page so that i can figure out what does what?

I think this can be said at any point in the game really. Nagging at readers to respond probably isn't a good approach. If you wonder how your comic is doing, what one likes and don't like. Ask friends and peers to look over it and see what they think. or build up that archive, and send it over to comic pitching.

with my lack of updates lately, i don't get much feedback. in fact, I never received something worthy enough to keep me motivated. my so-called fans are silent or inexistant. some who post say 'whoaa I love it" but they don't even link my site. that's the LEAST they can do. ;) Fanart comes on the second place.

I know many of my readers somewhat personally and they still don't talk to me about the comics that much. Unless I bother them about them of course.

I got some feedback the week I had that ad up on another site, but even then it was sorta limited. I guess readers aren't that talkative sometimes.

There are a bunch of great resources lying around.

The WebMonkey cheat sheet explains in simple terms what each html tag does. If you go to any page on the net and click on the Source/View Source button (usually under View in the browser) it'll show you the code so you can compare what it says with what it does.

Or, if you're feeling lazy, find a page you want to know about and pm me the link and I'll send you an explanation of the different bits.

Most comments are done in the shoutbox anyway :)
Seems like the big thing readers will write about is errors :/ I'm almost tempted to make one on purpose to see if that attracts any intention...the subtler the error that's pointed out, the smarter the reader, right?

And yeah, I have the shoutbox & email links, but no comments. Maybe my readership is like me (which would actually be surprising, since I just look for humor...).

Well...

I do get the odd comment or two in my shoutbox (one time from my mother... which was weird), so it's good to just leave it out there for people to drop a word in, if they feel like it--patience and all that, blah blah etc what everyone here's already said.

Earlier tonight I put up a blog post telling folks I'd do a free commission for the first person who answered a little contest question (One I thought was 'kinda easy, but what the hell).

So far I've gotten eight entries. Might be a few more overnight, but still, that's not a bad response rate. ;)

my comic is pretty laid back for the most part, but I adore exaggeration. So when I did nerds in my comic lots of nerds got mad at how exaggerated they were. but guess they fail to realize how completely over the top my other stereotypes are. *shrugs*
