5058. Finally reached the day three quota!

This would be more impressive if I managed to get writing before midnight, and thus technically on day four . . .

What's up with all the ellipses?

Also, so you know, commas go inside the quotation marks, not after them.

i was under the impression that editing of that nature was to be done after the fact, and that the purpose of nanowrimo is to put the words down.

I've never understood that "rule"... how the heck do you indicate a character's emotional reaction in a sentence with an ! and then indicate which character just spoke? :P Should I leave out the commas entirely?

And as for ellipses, I like them. They are sexy. Also, writing with a first person narrator is tricky but fun.

If the dialogue is an exclamation or a question then you don't use a comma.

Ex: "I'm a genius!" shouted Marcus as he observed the effervescent flask he held in his hand.

Ex: "Do you know where the restroom is?" asked Jill, patiently.

Although, I'd recommend generally avoiding exclamation marks and instead letting the narration describe the tone of the dialogue.

A comma is used whenever there's narration after or in-between dialogue in a sentence. The exceptions are like in the examples above where punctuation other than a period would be used (which would include ellipses.)
And as for ellipses, I like them. They are sexy.
Whatever floats your boat.

Thanks for the clearup, I'll keep that in mind. The only hardcore grammar teacher I ever had was my english teacher from sophmore year in high school, and that was for research papers. And yeah, I'll try not to overuse the ellipses. XD

Bah. Don't listen to him whining about ellipses... they are totally sexy.

See? That sentence was sexy, because it had an ellipse in it. Image
