My Rights Versus Yours. A slightly low key number with the seemingly effortless pop sensibility of Carl Newman once again at work.

New album in August.
Enjoy the redundancy of new New Pornographers.
looking forward to the album, but I really hope there's more to it. Like, maybe an awesome upbeat number a la Mass Romantic / Electric Version or even Sing Me Spanish Techno. Some of the songs on Twin Cinema were great but I couldn't imagine a full album of them.
Variety, right? Variety is good.

Saw these guys at the Metro last week for the first time. Full band, including Dan and Neko. Pretty amazing. They sounded big without sounding muddled, and what amazing, unselfish vocals all the way around. At times there were six people onstage singing at one time, no one really competing. So your catfight fantasies about Kathryn and Neko didn't pan out. They played for over an hour and half and didn't nearly cover all the songs I wanted to hear. But it was an amazing show. Goddamn, I love this band.

I sure am a gushing son of a bitch.
Anyway, AC Newman, Neko Case, and Dan Bejar (Swan Lake) all have records out this year. Got my hands on Newman's already. About what you'd expect, a bunch of weird, catchy indie pop songs with about fifteen hooks each. Excellent stuff. Neko's record comes out in April, I'll keep you posted.
