I'm thinking the zombies aren't real, but might not be a planned part of the LARP.
I'm not quite sure exactly what you're trying to say, but I think your theory is a variation of Theory 3 or Theory 5.

I think the guy with the red eyes was part of the LARP because Sarah was talking about him.

Ummm... yeah. He is part of the LARP. But are the zombies that just showed up?

You forgot one other option... the zombies are real and have something to do with the gem Mark was given.

Ooooh, what if the mysery elder actually ISN'T part of the LARP but an actual creepy vampire who just thinks that the LARP is funny. If he was a magic critter out of game then he could have given the gem to Mark so that it would protect hims from the Zombies.

An ancient vampire joining a LARP about vampires is a lot more interesting to me than a vampire becoming a rockstar and breaking the masquerade.

I think that sooner or later some sort of supernatural will show up. Might be this panel. Might not.

You know, that actually sounds pretty plausible. Welll... I'd like for it to be true anyway.

Hi! I've registered for the forum just so I can impart to you my shiny new theory about the zombies, which is that we're being set up for the revelation that (a) it's Halloween and (b) Mark is again so much under the spell of the LARP that he has completely forgotten this. In formal terms,

6) The zombies are a group of ordinary people in zombie costumes, going to, or on their way back from, a Halloween party.

The chief defect of my theory is that the zombies appear to be shambling.

...What sort of person puts on a zombie costume and doesn't shamble?

Probably an undead rights activist seeking to show that not all zombies are mindless, brain-eating... uh, zombies. (Man, if that doesn't sound like an awesome Halloween costume I don't know what does.)

Say, there's a theory! They could be vampire spawn seeking affirmative action from their vampire superiors.

Edit: At any rate, Mark's supposition that they are part of the game all but proves that they're not part of the game.

Depends how cold it is. It's a clear night at (in my theory) the end of October. A non-zombie, non-LARPer might well break character for the sake of speed once they were out the door. That these folks haven't seems kind of spooky to me...but it doesn't prove anything, of course.

I like the idea of the undead-rights activist, except I think the preferred term these days is living-impaired, or differently animated.

I do scent a misunderstanding in the air. It only remains to be seen how drastic.

Ok, with the most recent comic just having gone up I can safely say we've ruled out option 2 (The zombies are part of the game), but not option 2.5 (The zombies are part of the game, put there by Joel to give Mark another good scare).

I'm also pretty sure this puts the lie to options 3 (The zombie LARP is invading the Vampire LARP) and 6 (The zombies are a group of ordinary people in zombie costumes, going to, or on their way back from, a Halloween party).

I concur. I'm glad it's something more interesting than #6 (though that still would have been funny).

I say the zombies are a dream. He fell asleep at the Vampire LARP and will wake up after Halloween. I think he's dreaming this.

I'm voting for Option 2.5 (I've never quite trusted Joel since that whole mess in Chapter 1) but it being a dream is all too possible.

I don't think so. This weird stream of coincidences is all too reminiscent of his first encounter with the hunter. I doubt Joel could pull together the resources for an entire horde of zombie LARPers, let alone convince them to bite Mark and shepherd him to the convenient abandoned manor.

Could be a dream, but I doubt it. I think Mark would be far too into the LARP to fall asleep. As a final note, I ask the following.

Anyone here not expecting some sort of haunting and/or science experiment gone wrong in the mansion?

Oh. I see. My copy of the Weregeek main page didn't refresh properly, do I didn't see the Monday comic until now.

I still smell a setup in all of this, though. With this many people, it's very likely not Joel, but I still smell something wrong with this...

EDIT: You can find out more about zombies here.

Keep in mind you can't have a really good Halloween Story Arc without zombies, because zombies are awesome!
