Random Questions...
Hey all
I keep looking for appropriate places to post my random questions, but it occurred to me that I have the power to create such a place, and the worst that will happen is that it will work it's way off the first page into the oblivion that is dead threads.
So here goes.
First off, who here lives in Europe? I believe I missed the conclusion of the challenge to determine where WangyJohn lives...
Secondly, what kind of birth control do you guys recommend? I've been thinking about the patch, but have no idea where I'd put it. Nova ring just seems a little too invasive to me, and Depo's out, after 4 years of happiness, which is about two years longer than it is recommended for...

As a random answer I was almost going to start listing off folks from RPG.net.
Then I realized this was the wrong forum. I know Trekkie is in Au, and lots of us seem to be either US American or Canadian.
As for #2...errrr. Well not condoms, my oldest is the product of the pill and condoms. Proof positive that statistical odds are definitely not your friend.

I personally use oral contraceptives. Sure, there's a pill every day that you have to remember to take at roughly the same time every day, but theoretically I take other stuff, too, so it's not a big problem for me. It's not exciting, but it's reasonably reliable and has been around for a while, so there's not the potential risks associated with newer forms of BC. It works for me (or at least-- has worked for me. I mean, I haven't gotten pregnant yet).
Um, generally speaking, I also think that condoms are a good thing, but not necessarily as a means of BC. There's been some dispute among my fellow unreliable sources as to whether a condom will make any relevant difference in terms of chance of pregnancy when oral contraceptives are involved, so I'd figure I'd throw it out there and get some more perspectives.
Stuff not to use includes a spermicide (alone, that is), anything that contains Nonoxynol 9*, and the "rhythm" method. I've also heard some horror stories about the IUD, but this is another area of controversy.
-----
*I'm pretty sure that one has gotten nixed by the FDA now, though.
EDIT: For spelling. Damnit.

*waves* I live in Europe
And as for birth control -> the pill and condoms.. the statistics I was shown (which may well just have been fabricated in the governments effort to get teens now to 'use something for chrissakes!') indicated that condom + pill = even less chance of pregnancy than one or the other

you guys are a riot.
The Pill + Condoms thing makes perfect sense, I mean, if condoms have a success rate of like 90%, and the pill claims to have one of like 97%, then the two of them together should be pretty damn effective. That's what I used for the first two years I was having sex. It seems like common sense to me; If the sperm manages to take advantage of that 10% error rate and get inside, then they'd still have the pill to contend with..
wow, I didn't think there were that many Europeans around. At least I won't be the only tentaclephile in Europe.

Yeah don't take my 11 year as a real warning it's just that 1% chance does happen on occasion. Apparently I'm very lucky.

The Nuva Ring is wonderful!!!!
Just set it and forget it... in a sense
You slide it in and leave it for three weeks and then do one week without the ring and you'll have your period during that time.
I don't feel it while it's in and you can take it out during sex as long as it's not out for more the 3 hours.
I was on one of the versions of the pill for a few months and I still had spotting when I was on my 5th pack of pills. When I switched onto nuva ring no spotting thanks to the lower dosage of hormones per day.
I checked out http://www.nuvaring.com to answer any questions or concerns I had when I was looking to switch.
the only requirement for the nuva ring in my mind is that you can't be squeamish about your vagina

Re: Random Questions...
Paranoia about contracting some sort of disease works pretty well. When that [rarely] falls through, other measures can be taken.MistressMaggie wrote:what kind of birth control do you guys recommend?
Unfortunately, "homosexuality" doesn't work so well for me. While it'll keep the babies at bay, there are more constant concerns that are much more present for boys than for girls who have homosexual practices [like the diseases mentioned above]. Straight sex [and otherwise] is always with the use of condoms.
Honestly, have never done anything sexual [anything...] without lots of protection, ever.

I wouldn't say I'm squeamish about my vagina, but I just don't generally like leaving things in there that aren't tethered to the outside...xnapalmxmorningx wrote:The Nuva Ring is wonderful!!!!

I talked to a nuva ring sales rep, he said you can leave it in and they're even considering the possibility of making them with ridges because guys can sometimes feel it.
when I was 15 and REALLY couldn't risk getting pregnant, I used the pill plus condoms with spermicidal lubricant, just in case. Had one broken condom incident in 7 years since I started having sex. (although, to be fair, I've only had sex three times in the last over two years...)
As a former "industry insider" (
) I would recommend that what ever form of chemical birth control you choose you still use condoms. You want AIDS and all its nasty friends even less than you want a child.
Of course, once you find that glorious long-term trustworthy relationship get each other tested and throw rubber to the wind
Trust me on this one.

I have found that abstinance is quite effective, but it does get boring fairly quickly.MistressMaggie wrote:Secondly, what kind of birth control do you guys recommend?
Life is what you make of it. You only get one shot, do with it what you can to make it the best.
