it makes me stop and think and get a little weepy, but then again I have an odd connection to the rail.

Necro or not, it's an interesting topic.

I nominate "Putting People on the Moon" by the Drive-by Truckers for one of the most powerful yet most depressing songs ever created.

Actually the DbTs have a lot of depressing songs (and a lot of uplifting ones too, the band has range.

). I can't tell which is worse, "Putting People" or "Deeper In":

Basically anything by Elliot Smith, but Baby Britain stands out by not being autobiographical. Throw in some vodka and you can't lose.

Two songs about loss and grief are as follows:

Rocky IV Soundtrack - No Easy Way Out

The Offspring - Gone Away

The former was used during the segment where Rocky drove around in the car and reflected on his life, mainly on his friend who had just died.

The latter was written by the lead singer of Offspring after his first wife was killed in a car crash when their daughter was just a baby.
