Per popular request, I checked into hosting the Cookout at the Renaissance hotel by the airport.

Let's just say this place blows the budget out of the water. Kinda like going fishing with dynamite.

The place we stayed in this year is by far the best deal out there that I have found.

Examples:

$89/night hotel
+fee for Wi-Fi
+fee for continental breakfast

Minimum catering (catering only - this means just the food) is $35 per person. That's as much as the whole event cost per person this year.

And, they had the fucking gall to say, "Well, we're more of a upscale hotel." when we mentioned a convention of comic artists.

So... yeah. Not gonna be at the Reneissance Hotel in 2008.

Should call and tell the management what you thought of that comment. Would be interesting to hear if they try to backpeddle or stand by thier asshattery.

Last time I stayed in a hotel, the electricity was billed separately... that was really shocking.

$12?!? Even if they have eggs and sausage and bacon and other meats, it's still too much. I know of two places here who have breakfast buffets, and they charge $4/pound. I average about $6 each time I visit for panacakes, sausage, eggs, and a bottle of Coke.

continental breakfast is a known copout, it almost never means real food, otherwise it'd just be breakfast. i could never justify 12 bucks for a continental breakfast.

To their credit, Beth and I had their continental breakfast once when we were staying there (you get it free with a romance package). It was a very, very awesome continental breakfast as far as it goes, with a wide assortment of fresh cooked foods. I didn't think it was worth $12 though.

Twelve dollars isn't bad for breakfast, but if I was paying that I think I'd like a nice outdoor table in the early morning, with some tofu scrambles. a good well prepared breakfast + kick ass atmosphere is always worth every penny IMO.
