I live in Arizona, and I am primarily Welsh and Polish by decent. Out-side is like a beautiful painting covered in hideous eye melting pain rays, avoided at pretty much all costs.

further to my paleness comments, I went out for a local free festival day yesterday. It was hot, the sun was shining. I was applying factor 40 spf regularly.

While I luckily didn't burn, my freckles have multiplied like rabbits.

I live in Tucson, it is almost summer, I think that alone covers my current view on the sun.
My name made sense when I first thought it up.

I apologize in advance for the inevitable awkwardness.

You know that hole in the ozone layer they keep talking about? It happens to be right over the top of New Zealand (in spite of the fact we've comparatively done little to cause it). Hence, too much time in the sun will easily burn you.

That said, I tend to tan rather than burn, so I turn brown in the summer. I'm all anglo-saxon/caucasian as far back as I can trace though. I've been spending most of this year in a law library doing study, so I'm fairly white at the moment.

Actually that does have connection with the ground by the debris cloud ... that was probably a strong F2 at the time but later evolved into an F3 shortly after

Lucky... I have always wanted to see a tornado. The only natural disaster I have ever witnessed was the ice storm of 98 in Maine.

Ahhhhh yeah normally when I show that picture I get one of three reactions:

1. Like One Post Wonder's aka I want to see one too / nice tornado
2. YOU DID WHAT!?!? and you enjoyed it too o.0
3. That was photoshopped (amazingly a lot of people thought that with this picture)

Yeah and seeing as how Maine is far from tornado alley I think your state sees one tornado a year I think or some really really low number ... but you do get the occasional noreaster ^^

Marry me.

I love the idea of stormchasers... had I been born in the midwest, I swear I would have gotten into some sort of weather-related field for an occupation. Tornados are sexy. I'm not ashamed to say I love the movie "Twister".

^.^ I wish I could say that was one of the more interesting marrage proposals I got but alas I got three of them one night while rolling really good in craps. Now that was an amusing night but hey made almost $50 in tips alone and I was just rolling dice ^^ and doing a good job at it too

And anyone can become a meteorologist if they love the field but they need to know physics, calc I to calc III and differential equations and know a lot outside of the field as well.

I also like Twister but I chuckle during some of the scenes that are a bit well wrong but the cow line and the "we're on Bob's road here" and so many more get quoted when I have gone chasing. And speaking of chasing that is what I am doing tomorrow ^.^ SQUEEEEE! http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.html

Not "Twister".
Right now, I'm only an observer, as the Navy won't train me up more to make me a 74-12.
So many things in that movie are JACKED up.
"Cone of silence" for example, is a term adopted for the NEXRAD-88D, menaing whatever phenomnon is directly above the NEXRAD is not observable by the mashine, and you therefore, get no returns from that region.
If your tornado is right on top of your radar, bad things happen to aforementioned radar.

It should also be mentioned that the great majority of tornado damgae is caused by the wind shear, not the wind speed.
GAR!

Stormchasing, however, is something I want to do. I have a friend who took leave so he could stormchase back in the states (I openly chided him about taking a vacation so he could do more work.) He apparently, went all over the place (Including the Dakotas)

Well, I live in Tucson now, so even ice storms are not likely. Though we do get very severe thunderstorms and freak weather such as hail while it is 95 degrees out.

The ice storm was really cool (not intended as a pun), though. Everything including the smallest branches was covered in thick clear coats of ice. Because of that, everything seemed completely still. Googling ice storm 98 should bring up some beautiful pics.

Must tell a quick story here... this is for my fellow fans of the movie "Dodge ball".

I worked for a little while in a sign shop, taking a break from computers for a year. Now, anyone who's seen Dodge Ball knows the character Steve the Pirate. We had an installer from another store who sometimes came down to do some work for us... whose name was Steve. But it gets better.

Our Steve the Pirate looked and dressed the part - completely unintentionally. He wore a bandanna on his head, had the single earring, and a couple weeks worth of beard.

But the killer was one day when he came in to report on a job he was working on. He said, "It's a harsh wind blowin' out there." and - no lie - I almost wet my pants, and I snorted about half a can of Diet Coke out of my nose. I honestly don't think he had any idea why I was laughing, or that I was laughing at all. I tried to make it look like I took a swallow of Coke and it went down the wrong pipe.

But holy god... I'd have given anything to have had that on video.

Awesome Steve the Pirate story. I actually cosplayed Steve the Pirate in his dodgeball uniform to the local convention a couple years back. I need to find those shorts again, they were comfy.

Yesh, I am a fan of the Steve the Pirate story. I can not find the picture but oh man some friends and I dressed up for Dodgeball, we got little dodgeballs and some sweatbands that belonged in the 80's and pulled our hair up into high ponytails. Now that was hilarious but made the movie ten times more fun.

And yes storm chasers are nuts but we love our hobby.

I used to have fun passing cars on my bike going downhill. Then I got allergies and got fat.
