I am possibly looking for a writer / co-writer for a project in the immediate future which could lead to a long-term paid collaboration... (Though much more likely it will just be a short-term project with no money involved.)
You must...
...be willing and able to write funny G-rated newspaper format strips that appeal to a broad readership. No crude or perverse humor, gaming humor, or anything else that I don't enjoy or find disagreeable will make the cut. Also, the comic will be translated into Norwegian and be brought to a Norwegian audience, so pure pun-based humor or humor that is too regional for wherever on earth you live probably won't work.
...be in the position to commit to a long-term comic writing job should the opportunity arise.
...work fast and professionally, always meet deadlines, and such.
...have lots of original and creative ideas.
...be open to my ideas and criticism. I'd be your partner, not your art slave.
...be the kind of person I would enjoy working with. So it helps if you're a nice person.
Think you meet the requirements? Okay. Here's the deal: A big Norwegian newspaper is currently running a comic contest. The winner will not only receive a sum of 50.000 NOK (about 9.000 US Dollars), but also a publishing deal with the newspaper and Egmont International. How big the deal will be or how long it will last is uncertain as of now, it probably depends on how well the comic sells.
They want 15 finished strips by June 1st and a summary of the comic's concept and future plans.
Which puts a heck of a pressure on us, eh?
I am very tempted to work on this by myself and receive all the potential glory and gain alone, but I am not sure I can come up with just the right idea and I don't know if I am capable of doing both the writing and the drawing duty. I have a job and a lot of other commitments. But if I don't find anyone with an idea good enough to make me want to work together with that person, I will try to do something on my own.
However, I thought I'd give it a shot and see if there's someone out there who would do.
Interested in trying?
I need you to:
- Write a brief summary of your comic strip idea(s), the setup, main characters, etc.
- Write at least 5 strip scripts.
- Send both to me via email gimmecookies(at)gmail(dot)com by May 1st.
What's in it for you?
If we win: A fair share of the prize money and a professional writing job. Also, your and my name in print, baby. Details will be discussed, but I will likely demand a bigger than 50% share since I will not only be doing art duties but also translating. I will also take care of all mail and correspondence with the newspaper and publisher because it will all be in Norwegian.
If we don't win (the more probable option): The joy of working with me and seeing your ideas put into pretty little pictures! Other than that, I am not interested in making the comic a web comic because I don't have time for that. So we either get published, or our collaboration ends after 15 strips.
Why do I even think we could possibly stand a chance? Because we will compete with Norwegian competition only, and this competition is much more limited than American or others. I have seen former winners of this contest. They are not that great. Norwegians in general are lazy, so I doubt there will be a flood of entries. With some real big effort on both sides, yes, I think it's not impossible to win. I at least want to give it a shot.
If this sounds like a good idea to you, follow the above steps and contact me.
the chance to work with you on something like this is most appealing, problem is i'm not sure i've got anything in my head at the moment that would work, but i shall ponder and get back to you.
-D. M. Jeftinija Pharm.D., Ph.D. -- Yes, I've got two doctorates and I'm arrogant about it, what have *you* done with *your* life?

I am searching for a flash artist as part of a website designing team for a new comic. This will be a paid job, commission to be decided between you and the main employer (who is not me.) Graphics will be provided, and it's a short gig. Please email me if you're interested at warofwinds@gmail.com. I don't like acting as a go-between, but right now, it's probably the best way to get details. Thanks,
-Kez
EDIT: designer found. Thank you all for submissions.

Hi, my name's Peter Magee, or if you prefer ~point's left to his name and avatar~. As you can see from my sig, I am/was doing a sprite comic here on CG. However, while without internet for about two months and therefore unable to get anything up, I did some serious thinking about how much compromising I was having to do with my ideas in order to get pages done. So I've decided to take the comic drawn.
The pages already up should give you some idea of the style and content I'm going for, not least the fact that this is a fairly furry comic (in so far as that a lot of the characters can be classified as that), though obviously I'll explain future stuff thoroughly with anyone interested (I have the overall story pretty much entirely worked out).
Style wise, I have no specific preference, though I think given the content it shouldn't be too toon styled. I've no specific preference between B/W and colour. There will be action scenes, though I'll try not to over do it with those. I can provide visual references for most characters, and for others I'll try my best with words or photos. I don't usually storyboard, preferring to detail scripts instead, but can try if preferred.
In exchange, I'm quite willing to offer my writing services to any project of the artist's and there will be an even split on any future profits (as unlikely as that is )
You can get in touch with me either by PM or e-mail and bloodiedfox at mail.com
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...
I am an experienced writer hoping to find a reliable artist willing to collaborate on a long term comic project. The story itself is a space opera and while I don't have a particular style in mind, the artist should feel that they are up to the demands of the genre before applying.
I'm not looking for an art-slave. Anyone who works on this project with me will have full input into character and concept designs as well as creative input regarding the future of the script. I'm hoping to find someone who can commit to update at least twice a week once the comic begins, and get the story all the way through to the end.
I'm dumping the script in livejournal as I write it: The Introduction: Page 1- 6
This sets up the comic and involves some of the most difficult art direction I would ever invoke on an artist.
Page 7 - 13
The bulk of the action for the chapter goes here.
Kinda OT and I haven't thought this out much, but would anyone take interest in a mini-studio short-comic webmagazine? My idea is basically to have a "studio" of artists/editors and do the best/coolest short-comic scripts that are submitted. Production could be streamlined by having multiple simultaneous projects, and I haven't seen any webcomics like this so it'd be something different. If you'd be interested in contributing or, more importantly, have ideas as to how to make this work or why it wouldn't work or are just bored and wanna discuss it, PM me or contact me via AIM or MSN (though I will be leaving for a few days on Monday so I won't be able to answer any PM's until I get back.)
"Seems like the only comics that would be good to this person are super action crazy lines, mega poses!"
Anyone want to work with me on guest strips for Lucid TV? Interested artists must not be offended by graphic dead baby jokes, be able to draw really sexy nurses, and be able to finish their strip(s) by June 14th.
So far I have three contributions planned.
It's a good way to get some exposure while having fun. But most importantly, you will be helping out the fine people at Lucid TV and you will have a chance to work with me. Don't delay, sign up today!
One-liners: Come for the laughs, stay for the abuse.
I'm looking for a compatriot (or conspirator) for a new comic. I'm open for any ideas, though I'm rather wary of hardcore fantasy or sci-fi since I'm not terribly good with highly detailed things (yet).
I've been working on a comic with an artist from Sweden who has, as these things go, just decided he's not quite up to the grind of producing a regular webcomic. I now have three pages, a script and no artist.
So, then...
In the 14th century Earth and another world blurred together, the people and animals of each becoming the mythology of the other. It was in this period when a tengu - one of the legendary mountain goblins of Japan - took it upon himself to teach Minamoto no Yoshitsune about swordplay and honour. From these beginnings came the samurai, the warrior elite of Japan who's system of morality spoke of loyalty above all else.
Now the worlds are blurring again and our mythology is back - in the wrong places. Japanese mythology is gradually overlapping with modern day America and amidst the strangely increased sightings of foxes and owls, a tengu named Hagi has crossed over and is looking for the right people to train in order to reintroduce his system of samurai honour into the world.
What he finds is a gang of homeless kids, petty criminals who are just trying to survive and avoid trouble. Meanwhile, the city is getting stranger and more dangerous as the worlds blur together.
My comic book idea (Strip, not a book. Think Green Lantern or Spiderman) is a fantasy/medieval epic, with a bit of comedic twist but also dark at times (Not terribly dark, mind).
The comic book WILL Be published, likely by a local Publisher here in Calgary. Any profits made would be split 50/50 between myself and the artist.
I'm looking for an artist, preferably Canadian (Makes legalities that much easier, as well as getting together), with a not-too-cartoony style, much like superhero comic books. I can do coloring assistance and lettering if need be.
I already have one script finished and another in the works, describing each panel as I see it, but the artist would have much free reign for things like details. I am also quite open to suggestions on some things as well.
The script is rather long, but here is an excerpt from it, to show how I write:
page 14: one panel, three panels, three panels
P1: GRAYVOYAGER descends the stairs, looking at the three knights chained to the outer wall. Light streams down the stairs, and through dirty portholes on the other side of the ship. The three knights look rather beat up - bruises, whip marks. HAWK is especially mistreated, and they all look haggard - unshaven and with stained clothes.
TCAP: A FEW DAYS LATER...
GRAYVOYAGER:SO... HOW ARE MY GUESTS DOING?
p2: ANGIEL, looking quite indignant to say the least, with a bruise on one cheek as he lunges against the chains into GRAYVOYAGER's face.
ANGIEL: YOU! RELEASE US THIS INSTANT!
p3:Profile: GRAYVOYAGER sneers at ANGIEL, his nose mere inches away from the knight's.
GRAYVOYAGER: AHH, SO WEAK-MINDED, TO BE LURED AND TRAPPED BY MY ENCHANTMENTS!
ANGIEL: YOU VILE HEATHEN OF THE DARK FACET! GOD WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS, NOR WILL WE!
GRAYVOYAGER:HAH!
p4:Over-shoulder view from GRAYVOYAGER, looking over towards the tired HAWK, and glowering ZEAL.
OP GRAYVOYAGER: KING's KNIGHTS, SOON TO BE BROKEN, RETRAINED, AND SOLD AS LOWLY GLADIATORS. HAHAHAH!
Any inquisitive artists may email me at annepearn at the good old Gmail.com. Artists out of Canada are also welcome to contact me of course! I hope to put out at LEAST one comic a year.
I am looking for a toner to help with my comic. I'll do all the other work but I don't have the proper programs/tools to tone, so I need a fellow artist who knows how and can tone to team up with.
The toner WILL be paid.
Here's some sample art of what you'll be toning: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/560 ... n%3Ascraps

Quote of the Moment: “Greetings, my friend. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives.” ~Criswell~
I'm looking for an artist to illustrate an all-ages paranormal action comic. It will be kind of like Hellboy, but for all-ages.
I'm offering the piss-poor page rate of $25/page, and I intend to update the comic weekly, but hope to increase the frequency of updates over its run.
I'm not going to say what style I'm looking for in terms of style, as I would prefer artists to do what their most comfortable with, but I will say that interested artists must draw detailed and unique environments and characters. (The story takes place in a world where humans and supernatural creatures co-exist peacefully. That's not to say everything's perfect, but the supernatural creatures will be much like humans, except the obvious physiological differences. So there will be werewolf bodyguards, vampire plumbers, etc.)

Hi there. I've been trying to find an artist for quite some time now and I just stumbled across this thread - it's been here the whole time and I never realised!!
Anyways, there are two possible comics which we would like to attempt with the assistance of such people - the first is a Pirate comic.
The basic premise of this comic would be to give an accurate impression of what life was like for Pirates, without the glossy Hollywood coating of Pirates of the Caribbean. The main character, Jakob Sanford, stuck on the Island of Tortuga,(which was a real place by the way), joins a crew to get away from the debauched and dangerous town - only to find himself immersed in a crew of violent pirates he is now unable to avoid. Forced to prove his worth by them, he slowly begins to become that which he fears, until he becomes known as Calico Jake and is feared by ordinary folk as such. Until then he is swept along with the crew of Captain "Howlin' Mad" James Cooke - a relatively old pirate who has gained a lot of respect in the community through many successful raids on merchant vessels. Unbeknownst to the captain, his bosun, the russian pirate Vladimir Nerschevik, has an agenda all his own. He wishes to find his old ship The Twisted Serpent, and salvage it from the Sable Bank, (a mystic Island where the cult known only as "The Albatross", live), in order to retrieve Odysseus' map to Aeolus' cave.
Why? Because Aeolus was the guardian of the "Bag of Winds", which was, in effect, a way to control the weather. The Bosun is after this bag, as whoever holds it is virtually invincible on the water.
The rest of the story would maintain a fantasy element, borrowing from Ancient Greek, Aztec, Viking and even Saxon lore in terms of deities and artefacts etc to keep the story itself becoming too dry - the actual infrastructure and rules of pirate life have been researched thoroughly and would be depicted accurately.
The second idea we have is not entirely finalised yet, and would need a while before it is as fully thought through as the pirate comic, (Dead Men Tell No Tales). This idea follows, as with most comics, a struggle of good vs. evil. But this time, the action begins when Lucifer challenges God to a winner-takes-all game of Divine Chess. Divine Chess is essentially the same as regular chess, but differs in several key ways;
1. There is a near unlimited number of pawns.
2. Pawns can become such characters as knights if one of the knights is taken
3. Each piece on the board represents an actual person in the world below, who are often not aware of their involvement. Some pieces are made aware by the agents of either side, and use this to their advantage, as free will is still present.
The action would follow the younger of the White knights, (no older than 20), and, depending on the artists preference, either a young lad whom he takes as his squire, or a woman who is destined to replace the White Queen. In the case of the former, there would be no option for a romantic element to the story, but in the latter, a relationship would form 'twixt the two.
The setting would be the modern day world, and each of the 8 black and white chess pices would be characters with a backstory, giving opportunities for flashbacks to expand the story. The pawns of course would be minor characters, as they are largely unimportant, though three or four from each side could be developed -One idea for pawn developement is a group of scientists who find out that they are involved and attempt to find a method of escape from the Game.
In closing I add that the artist will get the choice of which project we eventually end up doing, and both artist and colourist would be allowed some creative input - say a script doesn't flow properly, it can be changed, or if you have an idea for character, plot twists etc, we'd be happy to add your ideas, within reason - after all, we're the writers!.
Now for a sample of writing; (this is a collaborative effort, BEWILD has two writers on the team at current), (This sample is taken from the first few pages of script for the Pirate comic)
Vladimir: Sickening isn’t it, lad?
Jake: To see men wasting away upon drink and blood? Aye, it’s terrible. Chances are
they’ll die before their time and that they’ll be drunk as well.
Vladimir: (giving Jake a look) I were talkin’ about the rum, lad, the spilt rum leakin’
away upon the floor thar.
Jake: Aye sir, sickening, sir.
Vladimir: I like ee, lad. Whadda they call ye?
{Offscreen}: Sanford, sir. Jakob Sanford’s ‘is name though he don’t admit it to all.
Next image is of Fatch.
Vladimir: And ‘oo might you be? The lad’s got his own tongue, needin’ no scum like
you t’ be tarnishin’ his good name afore he can say ‘is piece!
Fatch: Aw, ‘e knows I would ne’er ‘arm his reputation with words o’ misconduction!
Matter o’ fact we be like peas in a pod cast adrift in the saucepan of God’s
Almigh’y kitchen!
Jake: (laughing) Meaning that whatever mess he gets into I get into too!
(All three laugh uproariously, in the background a pirate strikes another in the mouth, the start of a fight).
Fatch: The ever well-meanin’ Fatch at your service, Bosun, yours and the good cap’n!
Vladimir: (face showing a trace of annoyance) So quick to offer yer services are ye?
‘specially to a former cap’n of a mighty ship not seen in port for nigh on
three months now, rumoured to be lying at the bottom of the sea…
And haulin’ yer mighty innocent lookin’ lad ‘Jakob’ in with ye! Do I even
need yer services?
Fatch: No disrespect cap’n but ye and the good cap’n entered this here bar without
crew nor brawl so I fancy ye be lookin’ for the former. An’ if offerin’ free
rum around don’t get ye some support, I don’t know what will.
Image of Vladimir regarding the pair calculatingly. The fight is in full swing behind them, a full on brawl.
Vladimir: If ye be lookin’ t’ join my crew… can ye both keep a secret?
Fatch: Not on your life, sir!
Vladimir: (rising) Good! Then ye can both spread the word!
(pic focus on Vladimir’s eyes)
We’re plannin’ t’ raise the Twisted Serpent!
Finally I'd like to add that the art style for the Pirate comic should preferably be realistic, but the art for the Game, if that is chosen by an artist, could be in manga style or realistic Marvel-esque stuff.
Greater Boston comic book publisher seeking new artists
CHELMSFORD, MA - Do you think you have what it takes to be a professional comic book artist?
Patrick Cook, Editor-in-Chief of Wicked Good Comics, will be reviewing portfolios and soliciting artists for upcoming projects at the next Chelmsford Comic Book Show.
All interested artists are urged to attend the show on Sunday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show is held at the Radisson Hotel & Suites, located just off I-495 at exit 34. Admission is just $5.
Portfolios should showcase a variety of skills, from sequential storytelling to panel layout and backgrounds to convincing character portrayals, rather than simply an emphasis on "pin-up" artwork. Aspiring artists are urged to bring a small variety of sample pages which best illustrate their artistic skills, with inclusion of a short (three to six pages) sequential story highly recommend.
Sample scripts are also available in advance of the show. E-mail Cook at patrickecook@yahoo.com for more information.
Wicked Good Comics burst onto the publishing scene with its "The Original Nine" Preview Edition, which premiered at Wizard World Boston in 2005. Their new projects promise to fulfill the potential shown in that dynamic debut issue.
I've been considering bringing back Freedom Fries, and even drew a few new strips recently, but I just don't have the interest to keep drawing it anymore. So, if anyone wants to try drawing a few strips then let me know and I'll make up a few scripts for ya.
"Seems like the only comics that would be good to this person are super action crazy lines, mega poses!"
I'm looking for people who want to draw guest comics I'm working on.
This time I'm hoping to do one for Cartridge Comics, (Deadline is August 1st) The Slackerz, (August 5th) and Geek Tragedy. (He's on a "semi-hiatus," so whenever, I guess.)
One-liners: Come for the laughs, stay for the abuse.
