The only US chocolate that can stand up to, or dare I say... surpass European chocolate.

Whenever I visit my folks, I always visit Stam.. They've been doing chocolate for ages in Holland. One of the brothers, for whatever reason, came to Des Moines, IA and opened up a shop. It quickly took off and now there are several locations in Des Moines and one in Ames. Their chocolate is deliiiicious.
I'm very particular about my chocolate, too. I lived in Switzerland for a year as a kid and got hooked on Swiss chocolate, so it was a bit of a shock when I came back home. I've been kinda picky about it ever since.
Edit: In fact, I just finished off a small gift assortment of Stams I got for my birthday because the remaining chocolates were melting in the heat! D= I suppose I could have stuck them in the fridge...but that's all the way downstairs and stuff.

Word. I am so unimpressed with chocolate. Sure it's good sometimes, yet I never find myself craving it.rkolter wrote:I sometimes think I'm the only person in the world who isn't desperately in love with chocolate. I don't mind it. But I don't get the whole world love affair with the stuff. It's good to dip fresh fruit in, though.
As for the news article, if they cant call cheese product "cheese" and they cant call margerine "butter" why should they be able to call fake chocolate "chocolate". It's not really chocolate and therefor is misleading.

I'm kinda the same way. If I have it too much, it's not special anymore. The Neko wrote:I have a love-hate thing with chocolate. I like it in very small amounts or combined with the right other flavors, otherwise I get sick of it very quickly.
And Hershy's is okay, but not as awful as Mars. I like going to independent and/or small chocolatiers. Or the foreign Isle at the grocery store.

Chocolate isn't all that and a ball of string. It is good when mixed with fruit though.

I'm not much of a fan of chocolate, I always thought that infatuation with it is mostly girl thing. I'll get craving for it here and there, though, but only on occasion. Swiss chocolates are good, Nestle ain't bad, Cadbury is very nice.
However, it's handmade chocolates from Belgia that really blew my mind. Remember when I said that I'm not a fan of chocolate? I completely forgot that while I was eating those.
