Comic Discussion - Week of 4-02-07

Well, the Auto-Updater isn't working at all, and it's impossible to manually update, so I'm just going to stick Wednesday's comic here for all the forum-goers.

I have to feel a bit sorry for the robot. It was built without knowledge of either the imaginary number or the whole "nullity" thing that was all the rage on Internet forums a few months ago, emphasis on "rage."

It doesn't even have a proper algorithm for undefined terms. All in all, quite a shoddily-built robot, but since it was made about the same time that swords were the height of weaponry, we should be able to forgive a few kinks in the programming.

On a slightly related note, I find it vaguely amusing that this comic's date is 4-04.

Then I guess the real question is if that's the Power of Plot, a one-time skill, or something Antonio learns to kill all the inevitable robots they'll meet on their journey.

All I hear is "Comicgenesis sucks". I'm sure it'll be cleared up soon.

Anyway, great stuff. Very Kirk. I never did figure out how the hell "nullity" was a number, or helped in any way. It's just taking a particular undefined term and assigning it a name. That's not how you make numbers. Still, it's sad to see this robot is one of the zero things that will explode if it encounters an undefined term. That's a COMP 101 mistake.

The last panel is by far the best "drawing" done in the comic so far.

Also, question: Is Carnahan's vow of silence a parody of the Clint Eastwood style silent heroes, or just your way of taking him as far from his original angsty design?

8-Bit Theater? Just four different idealizations. Specifically, idealizations of the author himself, pushed to different extremes.

I disagree somewhat. While that may be technically true, that simplifies what are, in many ways, the most original characters in any webcomic. I think calling them a simple "cliche" doesn't do them credit.

And OotS characters are pretty shallow. There isn't a single character there that we haven't seen a million times before, which is why I get irritated when Berlew tries to created "Real, serious storylines!". I'm not complaining, after all, it's just a webcomic, but it seems he is losing his focus.

Psychology sucks because they make you take it and it doesn't have anything to do with my major(Physics).

Best Legendary yet, even if it does use a tired cliche. The look on Antonio's face as he finishes his line is hilarious, and the pseudo-dramatic artistic finisher is an excellent garnish similar to parsley in bearing and effect.

Yeah, the lighting was the click-it in the SB email. The pace is pretty hawt too. It really shows how far elflad has come, especailly in the art department.

2. A Swordsman
3. A Ninja
4. A Birdlike character (who's feather colors are unexpected for a bird).
5. A magical character who uses materials not usually associated with magic for magic.

It only detracted before he used the current style. (AKA, before the redesign of the first few comics)

Uh, no. I still say the simplicity of the first few strips was a bit obtrusive. but to each his(or her) own.
