I'm not really unhappy...but DAMN I'm frazzled after the day I had at work. My boss, Bart, (who is VERY awesome, by the way) doesn't really have any experience in theatre...and he's over ushers AND concessions.

Since I've worked not only both departments before, but ushered at this actual theatre, he's depending on me a LOT...apparently since yesterday I've gone from regular peon to head usher...and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON EITHER!!!!

And yesterday at orientation all the other new ushers saw that Bart and I already appeared to have known each other really well (we'd met briefly a few YEARS ago when we both worked at the amusement park, but that's all) and that we were talking about "important official" stuff...so today they were all coming up to me asking me ALL these questions, and of course I didn't know any better than they did, but I had to make the decisions anyway.

It might've gone smoother if we'd talked stuff over beforehand...we didn't have much of an orientation anyway, and I was GONNA talk to Bart today before everyone else got there, but he didn't get there himself until after some of the others (3 hours after I did) and they were ganging up on both of us, so we didn't get time to talk until AFTER the show was over! (And by then we were both ready to get the hell outta dodge, so we're gonna get there early tomorrow and talk.

And I fully expect him to be there before me, since I kinda got onto him about being late today! :D

I had to give out a refund for someone's cookout fee today.

What makes me angry is that on the 18th, we discussed his refund and I said I'd refund it the upcoming weekend - because the 19th thru 23rd was going to be really hellish on me. He was ok with that.

Then, I got two weird emails from him, and Beth has been "reminded" about it twice as well. As if I'd take this remarkable opportunity to trade my reputation for a quick thirty-five bucks.

Anyway. As promised, this weekend he got his refund, but now instead of just sad we lost a cookout person, I'm just annoyed.

Siiiiick. On a week end. It felt like I had this gigantic rock on my throat that I had to try to talk and swallow around.

On the up side, I seem to have my energy back, for the most part.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

no no Sort, see liberals hate paying taxes as well... we grumble about it and finally justify it with the civic duty thing, but we also push the progressive tax curve so those at the bottom (dirty jobless shoeless hippies for example) pay just a little and the Paris Hiltons of the world contribute a signifigant precentage out of their trust fund. Image

I haven't even really started my taxes yet... usually as a student with part time seasonal jobs off and on I only need to fill out a couple lines, but it's still such a pain gleaning which lines to fill out. there has to be an easier way to design all those forms.
Hahahahaha wait until you start actually making money and supporting yourself. I finally got my severance pay, which was supposed to be $4000, and it was only $2600. The rest went to taxes. TAXES DAMMIT. Well, I suppose I'll get my revenge as soon as I figure out where the damn unemployment office is and actually go there. It's hard when you're nocturnal.

Taxes are a necessary evil in society, but I still think income tax is anti-American. You are penalized for driving the economy, with a gun to your head. Fucking DC highway robbers.

B-b-but putting outrageous taxes on cigarettes forces low income smokers to chose between a harmful habit and feeding their children! That's compassion, man! Taxes are awesome!!!

Actually, me myself, I don't have much problem with income tax and reasonable social services. I'm not much of a libertarian because I like roads.

"Sorry kids, but I'm sure your foster family will be able to feed you. Gimme my smokes!"

Roads are good. And I don't debate that the government works, income tax and all. I just get annoyed when I think about the tax that goes to things like income redistribution. I wish I could pick what my taxes paid for, it'd make it a lot easier.

If you could, we'd have an absolute hodpodge of a society that would most likely crumble because millions of people would stop paying huge portions of their taxes. Especially the extremely wealthy who don't take advantage of many public works because they can afford private alternatives (police, parks, transit, maintenance).

The reason for the income tax is the old notion of the noblisse oblige, that the wealthy have a duty to provide for those less fortunate than themselves. We live in a country where the wealthy are called upon to support to an extent the lowest classes of society, and its generally like this in many civilizations. We simply see a much vaster expansion of it in this day and age where governments must be responsible for so much more than just security and order.

If it helps, think of the income redistribution as working towards reducing crime by equalizing the gap to some extent between the haves and the have nots.

And on the subject of federal taxation, I want to thank you all for paying my Army wages (which are mostly tax free).

No no, not that I wouldn't pay all my taxes, just that I could pick what I was required to pay actually paid for. Then the liberals could have all their money go to welfare or whatever, and mine could just go to roads and police and stuff.

I have philosophical problems with the concept of the wealthy having to provide for those less fortunate, but it's useless to discuss it because I'm aware that nothing will ever change.

Getting back on topic:

One of my friends wrote a wikipedia article on something I was willing to contribute on, and it got speedily deleted for bullshit reasons. :(

Oh well, screw wikipedia.

I think (and check me if I'm wrong Tellurider) that she meant, "Recognizing that I have to pay the taxes, I wish that I could determine where they went." So millions wouldn't stop paying taxes.

You'd need some kind of minimum/maximum rating though, to stop people from say, completely defunding the military, or putting 75% of our taxes into whatever hot-button issue is prevelant at the time.

You're welcome. Thank you for taking a shit job and getting shot at so that I don't have to worry about someone shooting at me.

I'm sad because my boss and a coworker just may clash heavily at work, and since I'm good friends with both of them I'd rather they just got along, and I don't want to think about some of the consequences there may be. :(

We should use some of our taxes to buy rich people ponies, or computer games or stuff so that they won't be bored. We could end crime as we know it!

Crime and poverty, you're on notice.

Why, when there is nothing you can do about it, would you let yourself become sad about this?

Poor Jim. Dealing with a Kat that's sad. :(
