Honestly, does negative feedback take the wind out of you?

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

I'd've pointed out what happened to John Lennon, but that works too.

I like that my fans haven't mobilized into an army to destroy all who insult me on internet forums. That's one thing I like about them.

All negative comments I've been getting are things that I'm aware of, so they don't upset me.

I only really have a problem when I feel the criticism is unwarranted or excessive, like the time someone told me my comic was the "worst webcomic in the world"... they obviously haven't seen many webcomics

I would SO want that distinction. Truly a badge of honor.

Never got negative feedback. At least, not yet. If I did I would be very nervous. That's me. I would delete the message and pass.

and you know... anyone who has fans also has enemies. :)

I've gotten negative feedback. It's often where I've either actually botched something science related, or when something I've said has not come out clear. That's diminished since I've taken to drawing an entire batch of comics in one sitting.

In the FCBD, I've gotten negative feedback for the layout of my entry, and it's encouraged me to change things around.

Negative FEEDBACK is good for you. Negativity is bad.

You suck and your family should be fed to carnivorous apes! - bad

Ooh, sucks about your family and those carnivorous apes. You could draw the scene better if you realized that the light actually penetrates into the apes coat like this... - good.

If you're getting negative feedback, it's a sign that people are reading your comic. Be proud.

Bah. See, purposefully awful webcomics are not NEARLY as bad as naturally awful webcomics in which the artist has no idea just how awful their stuff is. Then, you've got a sad element of obliviousness to add to the awfulness.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

I have high standards for "so-bad-it's-good" things.

And when it's intentional, it's just pathetic.

A comic where the author has Sailor Moon tell him what an incredible comic book artist he is serves as my benchmark for these things.

I've seen a comic where Stan Lee tells the artist that he is exactly what the stale comic book industry needs to shake things up.

It makes the part in Megatokyo where a random Japanese girl finds Piro's sketchbook and spends the next few days obsessing over how good Piro's manga is look humble by comparison.

I'm surprised that Rkolter didn't make some science joke about negative feedback. Like "Actually, since I'm pretty negative myself, negatively charged feedback just bounces right off me."
note: any l337 used in the previous post was used ony to avoid the poster's Cybersitter. Image
