You make art for yourself. You choose to then share it with others. And yes some people do keep their art to themselves, and some people sell their art or show it off galleries. But they didn't create it with the sole purpose of gaining praise from others, and if they did then their art is probably crap.

Maybe that's why your comic fails.

STOP.

Useless bickering is why I didn't want another one of these threads, so everyone cut it out and dig the bees out of your bonnets.

No drama please. Remember the rule.
2) Know what you're getting into. Guess what? We're all people here, with our own opinions and likes and dislikes. Not everyone here is going to like your comic, and not everyone here is going to hate your comic. Be straightforward with your reviews, and take your own reviews as constructive criticism.
End of the subject, please.

Wow, what a lovely summary. If I ever feel like making a long winded ad now I know what to write. Oh and hey guys, did you know sorcery 101 could contend with those in comicgens top 50 and some keenspot comics.

Edit: Also, Jackhass I forgot to say this before but thats for your review. I agree with you about my pacing. I can't seem to get it just right. Things are either going too fast or too slow.

Note to Kez: I'm about 30% through your archive. I've read it all before, but not with a critical eye. :p I was offline most of the day today, and my internet wasn't behaving last night, so it'll be another day or two if that's ok.

Awesome review, AG.

*Takes a moment to bask in the positive comments*

*Takes a moment to reflect on the negative comments*

I have always had issues with too many characters. I once wrote a story with 20 "main" characters. Even I had trouble keeping track of all of those. Image Unfortunately, I'm very far ahead in my writing/sketchings, so I don't know how soon I can implement that to this particular comic... I'll alter some things in what I've already written, I think.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

I'm glad to know that your complaints are the same as mine. I'm not fond of my text either and every different one I try I dislike. Sooner or later, I'll get it right.

Gildedtongue wrote:If that's true, then what's the point of posting it or distributing it?

If art's just for yourself, then it should remain in a locked filing cabinet in your room.
Except that your personal investment in the work, as the creator, is too significant to let you accurately judge it yourself.

I think the people here (both Sparrow in her view and those commenting here) are giving helpful advice and it'd be best to make an attempt to listen as opposed to being defensive. Probably almost everyone here has felt hurt from negative criticism about their comics at sometime or another, and we know that it's a difficult but necessary step in an author's development.

It's not really that helpful, since it's brief and pretty positive, but as such it helps confirm that we're on the right track with things and, of course, it's nice to hear good things once in a while.

I'm glad that you liked the pacing and were able to tell what was going on =] As the creator of an action comic, I'm sure you're aware of how difficult these things can be. I think an important element that people might overlook is that, since this is a collaborative effort, it's taking some time for Brooke and I to get used to each other's creative styles and we're constantly learning how to communicate our ideas better (she's my girlfriend now, by the way.) Most of the pages differ fairly significantly from the script, and sometimes it doesn't work out that well, and there's a lot of creative flexibility involved that takes time to develop. Plus, hazards like the artist getting sick or having an artistic block can affect the outcome of the page. So, it's an interesting, if subtle process.

I talked about the crosshatching and blackness with Brooke, and we agree it was a problem but isn't a concern anymore in the more recent pages. She explained that, early on, she was still experimenting a lot with the artwork.

I hadn't considered using anything but Voodoo Doll yet, but hand-lettering or using a custom handwriting font are interesting ideas and could turn out pretty well. I'll be sure to discuss it with Brooke.

I think I have some pretty neat things planned for future chapters. Chapter 1 was sort of weird in that I had to use it to set-up the atmosphere and introduce the characters and story and such before really getting into things.

Thanks again for the review!

Also, I'd previously assumed the title of the harshest critic on CG, but now I gladly relinquish this title to The_Neko. Yowza! o_O

Well, yeah. I meant it had been up for a while before I actually thought to mention it here. Hope it gives you some directions you might not have thought about and gives you some satisfaction in some areas.

I think it should have been phrased, "Has been up for a while," in that case.

To C.W.

Thanks for the review. I think it was pretty honest and I appreciate that.

I really get the comment on the font a whole lot. I like the font cuz it's very fantasy-ish, and I think it fits the comic, but apparantly it's a bitch to read, so if that's the concensus, I have no choice but to use a new font.

My storytelling, haha. Yes, it could use some work in some areas. Not all of us are as gifted as Net, sad to say. In the beginning, I was just dabbling in webcomics, and really rushed things out, I think. After a year or so, I really found my plot and eased into it a bit slower, so I apologize for the crappy beginnings. I think a primer would be an excellent idea, and I'll consider putting one up, but if I did, it would be really long and elaborate and possibly ruin some mysteries in the comic. But still, something to consider.

You can thank Humbug for the layout. I love her :D

And finally, yes. I only noticed it after you mentioned it, but I do use ellipsis a lot. I'll stop doing that.

Thanks again for the review!

one of the first type rules, senshi, is do not use display fonts for body text.

I realize I use a display font as body text for my main villain but it's a readable display font and I spent about 2 days finding it.

Just something to keep in mind.
