For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

Screw that. She started here, she's always on the forums, she's a Stalker...

Techincally, she's Spot. Spot owns CG. So technically, she's part owner of CG. There. :p

Komi will be CG in my mind forever. :D

I'm glad so many of you got nominated. It just shows that CG isn't some wastebin of crappy comics. There are tons of gems around around that deserve acknowledgement. Now that some more people will see this, CG will get some more credit.

I hope everyone who was nominated wins something. And if you aren't fortunate enough, or some webcomic's crazy fanbase pushed for another comic, no worries. You still get tons of hits :D

well when the large percentage falls into one category, it's hard to get past that image.

We just need more people getting spotted.

Hopefully the WCCA's will speed that along. ;)

I'm not sure people pay that much attention to who hosts a comic. Do you really think anyone says, "oh that's comic's got to suck, it's on Comic Genesis." I think most people judge a comic on it's own merits, and I'm sure there's a lot of people who couldn't tell you who their favorite comics' webhosts are.

If CG is "known" to host some crappy comics, it's only because it does; and that's not a knock against CG at all. CG turns no one down, so by design it's going to host some crappy comics. It's a given. It would be naive to think that Comic Genesis shouldn't have a greater percentage of crappy (the term is subjective anyway, of course) comics than any webhost that has any kind of screening process.

By the same token it would be quite naive to assume that there wouldn't also be some outstanding comics that take advantage of CG's FREE webhosting. So, naturally, there's a lot of great stuff on CG as well.

I myself am very grateful that CG's we'll-take-anyone-yeah-even-you policy allowed me to jump right in and start publishing a strip online, because not having to worry about "selling" it to someone was one less obstacle I had to overcome.

CG doesn't need to worry about its image. It just needs to keep doing what it's been doing, because it's been doing it right.

Sadly it is one of the reasons Wikipedia uses to delete webcomic entries on it's site. A lot of people suspect it's the real reason Keenspot wanted Keenspace to have a name change as well. Thankfully there are tons of people out there who don't care about the hosting of someone's webcomic, but judges it on how much they like it. :D

Komi and RC were both hosted on CG earlier in the year, so in my mind they still count as CG comics for the purposes of these awards.

I agree with Lego and CJ that CG has a bad reputation, and the majority of the comics hosted here certainly are garbage, but, as the outcome of the WCCA is reminding people, there really is some outstanding stuff going on here and CG definitely doesn't automatically equal suckage.

You think so? Let me quote you from TTG's wikipedia page the comments it received before it was deleted for being not notable.
Can more people please start nominating and deleting webcomics? This webcomic, seen here is hosted on the free web host Comic Genesis which pretty much proves its not popular. Now, before we use {{db-web}}, someone is going to point out that it was nominated for the Web Cartoonist's Choice Awards. I'm going to state categorically that a nomination means absolutely nothing, being that there are roughly 100 comics nominated every year, and all the WCCA's are, are an online poll. If this were notable, there'd be quite a few reliable sources available when Googling its title, instead, it just generates 76 unique hits. - Hahnchen 00:28, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

* Delete as per nom. As an aside: there are too many awards out there as its so easy to start an award. Not just on the web, but on TV, in newspapers, random publicity campaigns. It can be a very poor indicator of notability/achievement. Bwithh 01:01, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
* But when I think crappy webcomics, I think Hahnchen! ...Yeah. ;^_^ Delete Danny Lilithborne 02:49, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
* Delete per nom; no reliable sources, WP:NOT an internet guide. -- Dragonfiend 04:26, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
* Delete I don't think webcomics deserve their own article until they demonstrate form of notability. MonkBirdDuke 08:37, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
You'll note I bolded a few parts here. These are the people that have appointed themselves IN CHARGE of the webcomics section of the wikipedia. So yes, people *DO* dismiss ComicGenesis comics simply because they're on CG, and they do QUITE often. I've seen it on quite a few forums away from the comic world... you recommend a comic on CG, and you get laughed at.

CG has some awesome comics, and I'm proud to be a part of it. But don't kid yourself that some people will never read TTG, ToP, KoV, or SuperFreaks simply because it's hosted on CG... because that's exactly the attitude some people have.

That's bull. Such bull, and it pisses me off. It completely defeats the purpose of reading webcomics. If your eyes stop at the URL, and then you decide whether or not to read it, without even looking at the work, then what's the point? Screw the URL. Just read the comic and see if it deserves your attention.

I know! I'm move over to SmackJeeves, cuz everyone knows their roster of comics are top notch!

But there's a grain of truth in that. Many of CG's best and brightest end up getting Spotted, going independent, etc. If your pageviews are crazy-high, there comes a point when you need to consider breaking away from CG in order to, say, sell ad space.

Oh, I know there is. I'm not annoyed by it anymore. :P Logically, once the page views get up there, it'd be STUPID to stay on a free provider when you could actually start to make something on the side from it.

On a note back on topic, Zortic pm'd me and fixed the link from SuperFreaks to Knights of Vesteria, Tdot. :) SuperFreaks is going to be a lot of fun, but it's only got 4 comics up, for gosh's sakes!!! :p
