Bed and Breakfast - Nov 3

Post by Jaydub »

Well It looks like they are going to get breakfast before they leave. I hope the rest of the people believe as they do. It will make Quentyn's dealings with them go a little easer.

Yeah, but they think he's some sort of vengeful diety. I hope he can explain to them his true nature.

I hope that he doesn't even need to "explain" it. (As it is, he hasn't even explained it enough to Sam.) I hope that they get to know him thru his actions and then trust him. That's bound to be more convincing than mere talk, anyway, even if they first come to think he's the exception that proves the rule.

Hm, this sounds like an allegory for good evangelism....

well, I'm just glad he's got the opportunity to explain himself to someone willing to listen (even if it is out of fear,) here's hoping he can make a good impression.
I still say the doctor did it....

Well Quentyn could just kindly turn them down and walk away. They might have some plan, and drug him or something. So they can get thier wish, or a reward from the...umm Duke was it.

Maybe Quentyn is not a vengeful diety but he have power that they don't have. He owns armament can could destroy a small mob of them without trouble. Rumors and tales surround him. I think that we can call it a good replacement.

Le repas risque d'être interessant.

S.P.P.

With Quentin's luck, he will win them over until somebody notices their missing (enter some valuable) in the elf's pocket. Thought it funny that the boy is about the same size as the Racconna. Anyone notice the thumb-sucker? Think she's going to have a role in this somewhere in the future.

I thought the thumb-sucker kid was adorable.

But I think that Quentyn should talk to the mother. She said she knew the old stories well, better than her husband. Maybe she has a lead about the artifacts?

And Sam better not steal anything. :P

I think the whole thing was a nice touch.. Of course, peasants are going to assume even the slightest magic-user is a powerful mystic who can curse you six ways from Sunday at the slightest offense..

I really need to start applying this mindset to my fantasy RPG campaigns.. After all, what would a peasant know about spell slots or fatigue points?

Now there's a puzzle for Quentyn.

Convince them he's a nice guy who won't harm them - and it's off to the Duke.
Keep them scared, and they'll treat him like royalty... But Quentyn hasn't shown any desire to instill fawning subservience in people.
There could be some temptation here, drawing Quentyn to "the dark side", if he plays up the role of Dangerous Wizard. In his place, I confess I'd be tempted.
Not to say I'd do that... But I'd be tempted.

I'd guess his best bet would be to start a new legend, in which treating a Rac Cona Daimh well will bring blessings to you... Depending on what sort of blessing a black-band Questor can think to bestow...
Avoid those who speak badly of the people, for such wish to rule over you.

I think Sam should try to sneak something... and Quentyn quietly correct her.

The impression I've gotten of this family is that they're good folks. Not too well informed, but good people. "Off to the Duke", maybe, when they don't know him, but once they do get to know and like him, and understand that he's not intent on harm, much less likely.

And about the Duke, who knows, maybe he's a decent sort, too. And he'd be much more likely to have information about the artifacts.

It might be interesting to see the family learn that Racconnans fear humans as much as vice-versa.

I don't know, that hope seems a little far-fetched to me...
