I could blame the internet.

It's my fault, though. I'm avoidant. I don't usually start things, and those things I start I very rarely finish. It doesn't matter if I have access to the internet or not. It doesn't matter if I have access to any form of distraction or not. I will procrastinate and avoid working even the most ideal situations. I usually just invent something to distract me.

I could blame the internet, but I'll just blame Danny.

If it gets to be too much, I just walk away for a while. It doesn't gain me any readership, but in the end, this is a hobby.

I used to update pretty well. Then my grades went to hell and I dropped out of college as I started losing more sleep. You just have to take it for what it is.

Simple: I just sacrifice any and all readership!

That..... saves time, right?

I set aside one hour per day to devote to my comic, and one complete day. That is, I spend an hour each morning drawing or doing something comic related, then every Tuesday, I spend *all* my computer time working on the comic. I try to get 5 comics done per week and stay at least one week ahead of the update curve (I have a daily comic). If something comes up, I have a bit of "cushion" and hopefully, my readers (both of them) will continue get an update whenever one is due.

This has been working pretty well for me, but I have a simple comic and am old and married, and dont' work. I think if I were in college, tho.. I would try to make a complete 52-page comic book over the summer. Upload the whole thing, with each page dated properly, so that auto-genesis posts each page when it is due. During the school year, be writing the next comic and maybe do some storyboarding when you have free time, until next summer, when the comic is actually drawn and created. Then it can be posted by the time last summer's comic is wrapping up. That is a good cushion, I think. If anyone already does this, let us know how it has been working out.

Which would be worth being proud of if I did not feel as if life had decided to kick my butt up one end of the block and down the other. I can barely manage to finish three comic pages per week, if I decide not to have a break during the weekend.

Those of you with full time jobs/school/college...is it really this hard, or is there some secret to living the creative, yet functional life that I'm just not getting?

What I've done is taken need sabaticals for "quequing" my comic. Also, I only update three days a week.

Over this last summer, I produced 4-6 comics a week depending on inspiration. I'm well ahead of myself now, but I still need to draw at least one week to stay ahead.

You guys are all amazing! With college and work, I have no life. I've been wanting to get my comic up for ages but I just don't have the time. Give yourselves all a pat on the back!

*dubiously pats my own back*

Yeah, I have a great deal of trouble updating enough. I'm stuck with a one-update a week schedule while I'm in college. The biggest problem with updating more often isn't a lack of inspiration or creativity, just that I draw things very slowly. I'm sort of a perfectionist when it comes to art, and I'm not terribly experienced- bad combination.

When all else fails, dull your sensibilities with booze until you think your work is amazing. Always works for me. 'Course, you gotta still have enough motor skills to draw while wasted, and thats a real accomplishment.

Eh. My comic takes 9-12 hours to make. Plus work. Plus girlfriends. (A SECRET: THE LATTER TAKES THE MOST TIME OUT OF ME. ESPECIALLY DURING PMS.)

I have a feeling I'll meet you guys when I decide to go out the CG backyard to give myself a shotgun mouthwash.

Well this sure is interesting. I've been completely unemployed and haven't updated once in two months because I was "too busy." Geez Im a loser. I just managed my first update yesterday.

Here's my burning question: All those people who have the sweet hookups at work...What is your job? I NEVER got to actually work on the comic book at work, even though I did have a computer. I probably would have been fired. Where can I get a job like yours? How is this possible??

Another question: is anyone here doing anything consuming like Medical school, or getting a Ph.D (in a tough subject)? I'd like to know if those people manage to keep this hobby up. I'd like that.
