Hello! I am not an expert like those before me, but I will say that I love your style. Your characters have a great look.
I agree with smoothing out the lumps in the calves, but honestly, they didn't bother me until it was specifically pointed out by the artists.
Keep up the good work!
Critique please! Generic Amerimanga
hmm.. nothing stnads out really. I wouldn't consider this any bit related to "anime" or "manga" though. lol. Those terms seem so derogatory for some reason. Perhaps it's because that particular "style" has become associated with the giagantic influx of amteur "artists."
I would, however, like to suggest that you try using a different pen thickness for the nose and mouth of the characters. Chloe's mouth in particular stood out for me -- it kind of felt like she had a giant black licorice stuck on her face for a second because it was the same thickness as the outline of her face. It would have helped if her mouth and nose were done with a thinner pen, since they are finer minor details of the face compared to the entire outline of the face.
I was also somewhat confused about her gender at first, but her name helped me "label" her. Not sure if it was part of the origianl design to make her appear like a youthful tomboy-girl, but if not, you could try making her arms thinner and giving her a slight bit of hip ;)

I wouldn't call this "generic amerimanga" either. 'specially since "amerimanga" is such a cuss word, these days.

Anywhositz,
I like your style, no, I love it.
I know I'm just repeating people, but Chloe should be made to be more easily identified( that's the biggest issue) and, Like Kodama said, vary the pen widths. all skinny or all thick lines are bad. Baaad.
I just repeted everyone, dang. >.>
true, it seems for every good Amatuer "manga artist" there are 10 bad ones.I wouldn't consider this any bit related to "anime" or "manga" though. lol. Those terms seem so derogatory for some reason. haha, more like there's 10000 bad ones for each good one. :(AVEM wrote:I wouldn't call this "generic amerimanga" either. 'specially since "amerimanga" is such a cuss word, these days.

I actually avoid any webcomics that consider themselves "manga" It really has become a synonymn for "sucky."

I know. They seem to strap themselves down with bad cliches because they think "that's how manga's suppose to be!". >.>
And it's all the same. it all sucks.
I mean there are good artists on the 'net, and good writers on the 'net. But mostly morons are attracted to making...er...western...or OEL or whatever manga. And that makes Avem sad. ;o;
I read, like, 2 different manga-styled webcomics. Two. Well, three, but the third is a parody comedy, so...They KNOW they're making fools of themselves.
Now I'm beating a dead horse to death, so I'll stop ranting.

The only "good" American manga that I know of (and love!) is Red String.
I read a bit of that. ^_^FLittle wrote:The only "good" American manga that I know of (and love!) is Red String.
While we're on the subject, the three I read are "Inverloch", "earthsong" and "van von Hunter", which are Austrailian, Canadian, And American, respectively.
