Yet another shameless plug

Post by 0bs01337 »

I've been lurking around here for some time now. Since shortly after I was linked to the then current comic about chibi sue cutting off a pedophiles balls. Anyway recent events have drawn me out of my general habbit of lurking. The first is wishing ghastly well in whatever's troubling him. The second is that a friend and I have finally self published an RPG.

Honestly I'm not certain how to go about promoting it. Right now we're trying to focus making it know in places where feel teh humor will be appreciated. It tends to range from humorous references to just plain out there, with some smut thrown in of course. We're trying to get some attention from kingdom of loathing players and have talked to brian over at nuklearpower.com about a review.

Here's our current description of the game:
A game too warped for White Wolf. A system too overpowered for Munchkin. A world too fraught with cliches for D&D. And it all rests on the classic twist in fate: the coin flip. MLX parodies classic RPGs and takes roleplaying into a new, more portable age, utlizing only the contents of a wallet for its mechanics. It is a lively and humorous system that draws on countless pop-culture sources for entertainment. This is the RPG that Jack Chick warned you about.* *This game contains strong language that is not suitable for all readers. Several may find parts of it in bad taste. MLX is also new and different, which many people equate with frightening or dangerous.

The if you're still curious the link my sig will take you to more product info. I'd appreciate any feedback anyone can give.

So.... its FATAL with fewer rules?

First, I'd modify your copy as follows (to start, and possibly even further):
0bs01337 wrote:A game too warped for White Wolf. A system too overpowered for Munchkin. A world too fraught with cliches for D&D. And it all rests on the classic twist in fate: the coin flip.

The Mister Lincoln eXperiment (MLX) parodies classic RPGs and takes roleplaying into a new, more portable age, utlizing only the contents of a wallet for its mechanics. It is a lively and humorous system that draws on countless pop-culture sources for entertainment. This is the RPG that Jack Chick warned you about.*

* This game contains strong language that is not suitable for all readers. Several may find parts of it in bad taste. MLX is also new and different, which many people equate with frightening or dangerous.
Additionally, you've got one of those "inconceivable!" moments in your sig-ad with "cataclysm"...

"You keep using that word... I do not think it means what you think it means."

'Course I could be wrong. If you really meant to say "come read a beautiful disaster/great flood of..." then you're spot on.

The context makes it seem to me more likely you're trying for a word more like... collision or fusion, but with more of a disasterous, raucous overtone... Right?

Anyway... I'd suggest also looking into selling the download version on Steve Jackson Games' e23 site...

I'd drop the download price to a flat ten bucks, or better, $9.95 Psychologically, we tend to focus on whole numbers, and certain whole numbers more than others... The typical difference in sales between test market prices of, say, $19.95 and $20.50 is out of all logical proportion... Much higher than the difference between $22.50 and $24.95

I'd make sure you have stock on hand and sell them trough Amazon as a private seller.

I'd make sure the game system has it's own website, and that it's well made and informative.

Further, if you want to send me an electronic copy, I'd be happy to read over it and make any other suggestions that come to mind, and write a review to submit to SJG's monthly emagazine... That gets it out in front of a lot of gamers who are kind of "that way" with more... unusual game systems anyway.

Any questions on any of the suggestions above, feel free to post here, PM, or email me.

We tried to get a hold of one of the uys who wrote the msot disparaging FATAL review a while back, figurign that even if he slammed it would be publicity. He never got back to us. Interpret that however you please. We didn't send him a preview or anything though.

The spacing honor points out is ideal, but for some reason lulu's descriptions seem to not like preserving line breaks. You're right about the intent behind cataclysm, but I intended it be "A violent upheaval that causes great destruction or brings about a fundamental change. " (dictionary .com). I'll admit I'm not familiar with the usage in that sense and have usually seen it in the flood/ great disaster use. I agree that it is a little strained, but really have no idea how else to capture the raucous overtone you mentioned.

As far a s pricing, again lulu's system is a little odd. They won't let people individually change the price fo he PDF. As far as teh even $20 for the book goes I was aware of the difference in marketing, but would've liked to have thought that people buying this would appreciate the honesty more than the nickel. Still, I guess I'll pander if it'll mean more copies.

The website is progressing, but at teh moment the people workign on that are in another state. So I'm not entirely sure how well it's progressing.

I haven't looked into either amazon or steve jackson games. Thanks for reccomending them. Also thanks for offerign to review. I'll get you a copy as soon as I can.
