It's a simple service that allows you to share or get critique on artwork, nothing more. They don't abuse the terms of service and I've not seen any reason to be hacked off with it. In fact it's pretty useful if you want to do collab work, cause if you've got some nice pencils, people will jump through hoops to ink it for you.

Stop Moaning.
I've known at least 2 people who got banned for no apparent reason and were not allowed to remove their work from the site because they were no longer a member. They were really pissed about it. I probably would be too.

I think that Photobucket started hating me. Now they started deleting my images for violation of ToS all too often. :-?

I dislike Deviantart because it loads slow, and in order to upload anything you have to go through umpteen million pages. So it takes about 10 minutes to upload anything.

Haha Duffies, photobucket doesn't mind my stuff!

I used to hate it

but I don't love it either

I use it cause I'm lazy...that's pretty much the only reason. I bought a print account the other day but don't have any prints for sale. It's a one time fee so I figured it couldn't hurt. Print accounts get you half the profit

and to get 10% you DO have to pay, you have to buy a subscription.

i've only had one bad experience and that's cause someone reported a pic of mine as a violation...

I reposted it and that was the end of the matter.

It is a great place to find stock though

And the only reason you can't see pictures without an account is if it's a mature pic

I don't like DevArt because it takes forever to put up artwork. if have to choose like, 40 categories before you can post the damn thing!
I'm glad 90's style forum signatures don't exist anymore.

I don't know what everyone's talking about. It only takes me three minutes from start to finish to submit stuff to deviantArt.

Seeing as I have a CG account, I really see no point in using DA anyway. I can just host my art through here.

Using Internet Explorer's FTP function, I can, and have uploaded about 10 pictures in less than a minute on Comic Genesis.

I'm one of those artists doomed to be ignored on Deviant art no matter how good I get. It turns me into a little green monster when I see "Sayuki chan in snow with cargirls ears KAWAI #0355456b' has got 300+ comments when all I get is some guy saying "you should draw a picture of He man naked"

In short, DA is just a bitterness machine for me.

Yeah, I have problem with that. It's terribly slow and asks me to sign up to see mature content.
If I was keen on illustration stuff I would probably use DA simply because it would grant most of sightings of my work, but most of stuff I do is comics so that's it.

I know. Nor CJ's. Apparently, one day someone was randomly checking through accounts and stumbled onto a few boobs on mine, and now they're checking me regularly.

But KKB, technically, you have no comics on your account and only pin-ups. Being that CG is not art host but a comic host, people have been nuked for using their accounts that way. Of course, noone is going to nuke you because you're a forum regular, we all know you and so on, but someone who isn't so involved into community wouldn't be allowed to. They'd have to use DA or some similar service.

Yes, but I'm assuming most people here that have a CG account do have a comic and there's no rule against also hosting your art as well. So I think it still applies to others.

Yeah, but that still leaves those who don't have a comic.

I don't know, I don't think that CG is a really good place for stacking comic-unrelated artwork, mainly because of publicity issues. People go to CG sites to find comics and they can be put-off by a lot of art instead of comics. Then, if you're visiting forums such as these, you have a lot of oportunity to post and promote your art, but if you're not, then hosts that have a good net of cross-promotion built in specifically for art, are better choice.
I don't rwally know if DA is the only host of this kind, I'm not aware of existance of others. I'm aware of it's questionable ToS (though I haven't kept track of whether something's changed about that) and with my dialup connection, it kills my browser more often than not (I men, it can't be that hard to design such site to load at decent speed) but if there's no other widely accepted art sharing site, then DA is the only option for most of artists. Except for LJ but then again, LJ is a completely different story.

I'm a writer on DeviantArt, and I've been on the site for over two years now. I think that it's a pretty good place to be.
All that has ever been created was done so for a reason, even if that reason is just for it to be.

Hi there, welcome to the forum. We prefer it when people don't necromance threads. After all there's plenty of other threads to post in.
