I really need to get around to seeing it. And everything else there is out there. I should ask my friend about it since she's got a ton of Broadway shows.
I'm bored.

Newsies is, indeed kickin'. For cool period lingo Guys & Dolls is pretty good too... and Bugsy Malone is suprisingly great.

I guess that's true - nothing was said specifically. Because we're playin' it Mob style with classic fedoras and lounge singers and the like, I figured it was pretty clear to everyone that this is a classic 20's-30's gangster story.

For future reference, here's some things to know: America was under prohibition from 1920-1933. That meant making, transporting, or selling alcohol was illegal.

Bootleg liquor NEVER really got curbed... and in fact, it got ORGANIZED. Although mafia groups also ran gambling rackets, smuggled drugs, and performed other illegal acts, BOOZE was their primary market.

Following the stock market crash in 29, things only got worse. People were poor - and frankly wanted a stiff drink to dull the misery. Mobs got even more powerful... but not AS powerful as they would have been if they had cooperated instead of feuding over turf and business disputes.

THAT'S the time period. Have fun ;)

would there still be evidence of bombing from a war or was that ww2..? *cant remember*

and people were encouraged to smoke in ww1 from what my teacher told me... was that still going on in the 20-30s?
If I told you I was innocent, would you believe me?

There hasn't been a war ON American soil since the civil war. The last time we were bombed (besides the twin towers a few year back) was pearl habor (Hawaii) 1941 and never before recently mainland since the british with George Washington and such.

Americans were encouraged to smoke until the 80s.

20s and 30s are known for gun running and bootlegging, the stockmarket crash and the advent of those marvels of modern day entertainment the TALKIES!
