As a side note, how awesome is that game going to be? I've got my little heart set on seeing the old gang in glorious PS3 form...

It's hard to believe that FF7 is 9 years old now.

I got it as a birthday present..... it was pretty good...

If you liked FF7, see AC. If you didn't, avoid it like the plague. I haven't seen the english dub yet, but from what I hear, it uses the same VAs as Kingdom Hearts 2. They all sounded pretty good to me, with the exception of Aeris, who sounded like she was reading off a cue card whenever she spoke.

Oh well, at least she didn't sound like she wanted Sora, Donald and Goofy to drop dead, like Jasmine

Bad as her voice was, this is actually a sentiment that I can sympathize with in regards to Donald and Goofy.

The plot was awesome, imo. It gave me the conclusion that FF7 never had. As far as the physics go, with regards to strength, and powers......you guys remember they had materia? Sure, Cloud's major portion of his stash was taken away, but materia grants people static effects. Some boost strength, some boost agility, most boost magic power.....so their enhanced abilities at jumping, fighting, and halfway flying isn't -that- far-fetched.

Especially since, you know, it's a CG anime and anime never makes much sense in the physics department. The only physics scene I can think of that -really- irked me (there were a couple minor irks, all of which in this fight scene) was when

*SPOILERS*

Tifa and the.....um...can't remember his name, the guy with the claw arm and short spikey hair...fought. There was one point the guy grabbed Tifa, and swung her around a lot before throwing her....that didn't look great. The stop motion on the wall? Awesome. The being spun around I thought didn't look great.

I actually liked how open to interpretation the ending of FF7 was. Now it's been decided by this movie.

As I recall, an early part of the game involved Cloud falling about that same distance, only to have his fall broken by a church roof. So yeah, the "without a scratch" stuff is hardly something movie-only. It's still a valid point, but it sort of falls into the suspension of physics thing...
I forgot about that in the game, too. Well, that was ALSO retarded and prettymuch ruins any sense of danger for anything. It was a half-decent game that people won't let die for some reason.

hrrms... I thought it was alright. The animation was not that fluid, but when has anime ever been fluid. And physics? I don't know what you all were expecting. Its supposed to be Final Fantasy after all. Realism doesn't exist.

Yes I know there are some Japanese animation films, like say Planetes that abide by things like that, but I really didn't expect an FF film to have such things. Though I have no way to argue, as I really didn't watch it to closely, as I watched it with my girlfriend who really doesn't like fight type stuff to much.

I think the designs were nice, the modeling was sweet, and the atmosphere materials and diffuses were nice. I studied a little 3d modeling in college, but truthfully I have little data in this department when we get away from wireframe and build physic conditions, materials, and lighting and stuff.

but what I saw looked pretty decent. It was like a 3d anime, to me. Characters very much two dimensional fun, the backdrops and surrounding places where all the work was put in.

FF7AC was meant to be eye candy for lack of any reason to do it.

It delievers what the Final Fantasy movie did not, nothing but battles and fast action and little dialog.

Square, for lack of any better ideas, should do the same with all the FF games, don't you think? Hell we are almost there already, forget the game, just do FF13 as an all CG animated novel. "30 hours of non-stop 3D rendered animation, woohoo"

Though seriously, I -would- like to see some kind of sequal to FF6 or Movie adaptation.

(I'd like to also add I'd like to see a CG Chrono Trigger Movie, but not as a sequal, as an actual adaptation)

But that's just me. I happen to like most 3D CG stuff, and have very little complaint with it except when the animators make no attempt at animation of mouths (*cough* *cough* Mecha stuff *cough*)

Bleh, I guess a Chrono Trigger CG film wouldn't be that bad. I think it would be so much better as traditional animation though. :P

I was imagining the cities as CG first, then the characters actually. I'm afraid that a DBZ Anime would look and feel too much like DBZ, which I think is ugly.

The Chrono Trigger PSX has animated scenes and the OAV was pretty crappy.

By my understanding, the FMVs looked bad because they used crappy video compression, so they were horribly choppy. First time I played CT '99, I actually thought my PSX was skipping :P

I'd say it's worth watching for any FF7 fan. Otherwise you just won't get it. The whole physics and super-powered arguments are terrible arguments for not liking it. It's FF, in the games the characters fight and kill monsters that would squash a normal human being flat without you even getting a look in, if they were to really exist. I can udnerstand people not liking that kind of stuff, which is fair enough, but the film was true to the original FF7.

If you watch any of the special features they even comment on the expressions of the characters, well specifically about Cloud. They talked about how people that played the game wouldn't expect Cloud to smile too much if at all, hence why he doesn't do that much in the way of facial expressions, he's your stereotypical broody sort of anti-hero type.

There were very few things I didn't like about it, just that it wasn't long enough (need... more... FF7... goodness...) and the other characters just aren't in it enough for me. I'm sure Cid's only in it for about 10 seconds of total film time with maybe 2 lines. It is worth watching just for Reno and Rude alone though.

I also have to agree that the first FF film (spirits within) WAS a good film, it just shouldn't have been lumbered with "Final Fantasy" in its title. What people got was not what they were expecting for something with the same name as one of the greatest game series of all time.

Any film's worth renting, otherwise how can you form an honest opinion about it? I would say though that unless you've not at least played FF7 you probably won't follow advent children too well.

Holy freakin' crap! Vectorman was awesome. They need to make another one.

And as for FF7AC. I pretty much agree with Van. If you like anime, this is basicly what this is. It's a CG anime. It's not Pixar, and it's not supposed to look like a live action movie. It's anime, clear and simple. If you don't like anime, you're probably not going to like this movie. But if you do, and like the whole spikey hair, throwing physics to the wind, and costumes that defy all logic, then you'll love this movie. I know I did. The plot was... lackluster, but not BAD. It just wasn't aweinspiring. The FIGHT scenes however, make the Matrix look like a 3 stooges skit. :D

A game that's all cutscene? It's called Xenosaga. ;D

There actually WAS a proposed second part to Final Fantasy 6, I've been told, but the plug got pulled part way through. Could be just another internet rumor, though.

Did you ever see Chrono Trigger Resurrection? Or, at least, the bit that they put up.

I have that clip from Ressurection. It was interesting, except that character movements were very stiff, and Crono always had that one expression plastered on his face. But it was a preproduction movie of a fanmade game, so I can understand that stuff.

Also, I wonder if you're thinking of that fake FF6 sequel that poppped up for April Fool's day years ago. I don't remember much about it except that Shadow was supposed to go without his mask, and one of the new characters was a chef with a command like 'Chop Suey' or something like that.

KKB reminds us all that it wasn't just the hawtness we missed.
Also there was a vector man 2 and it was quite delicious.

What I want is a remake of the Shadow Runners game...that was hawt.
