What dish are you bringing to the Cookout?

Post by Rock_dash »

It just hit me that I don't know what everyone's bringing to eat. I know I was planning on bringing a Key Lime Cheesecake, depending on how well it turns out when I try to make it here at home. I also know that Tellurider plans on bringing pies. Is anyone bringing anything that's not a desert?

Da List

Rock: Key Lime Cheesecake or Macaroni Salad, depending on how many people are bringing deserts
Sin: Chocolate Type Cookies
Tellurider: Blueberry and Apple Pie
Jim and Kat North: Flower Pot Bread?!
Vorticus: Fudge
Orion: Sugary Snack Product
Phactorri: Vegetarian dish
Kris_X: Vegetarian Dish/Gourmet Popcorn/Salsa
Pimpette: Salsa and/or drinks
Joel Fagin: Desert or Salad and Evil
Corgan: non-dessert food item of some sort (mysterious!)
Cortland: Nebraska Corn or Omaha Steaks

I will bring whatever I can find at a grocery store near the cookout. Or maybe cookies! I have a -great- recipe for cookies, but I dunno if I've got the stamina to make enough cookies for the whole cookout. How many people are we at right now?

Had a brainfart on the way back from the grocery store. There are a few places than you get order trays from like Lee's Fameous Chicken, Subways, Fazoli's, etc. Just an idea.

As for grocery stores we have Shop n Save - two of them - The one with the perky cheerleader billboard (you just have to see to it) and the newer one and then Schnucks. All within a mile or so of the house.

Movie theaters are about 15 to 30 minutes away from the house. Same goes for the good malls. You do not want to go to Northwest Plaza Mall. Just trust us on this one.

Any local information needed, let me know.

Cool beans. So for the list so far, we have:

*Key Lime Cheesecake from Rock
*Chocolate type Cookies from Sin
*Apple and Blueberry Pies from Tellurider

If it turns out that the list is mostly desert, I'll probably make macaroni salad instead

I have no idea. I don't cook. Maybe I'll bring chips or something. :p

It says on the website what a couple are bringing:

Vorticus: desserts (probably homemade)
Jim & Kat: Pasta and dessert???
Orion: Sugary snack products
Phactorri: Vegetarian dish (yay!)
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

Probably just going to prepare myself some vegetarian things over the time I'm there.

EDIT: I'll bring salsa if anyone wants me too, or gourmet popcorn.

That's what I'd like to bring....but at this point, I don't think that either one of those are the best idea...

I was thinking something along the lines of a special salsa-ish dip my dad showed me how to make. I'd bring plenty of tortilla chips with it too, o'course.

Just trying to think of things that would survive a (roughly)20 hour drive - cause depending on when exactly we get there(still working on that), I may not feel up to doing anything but going to bed until the actual cookout starts in the morning.

I should be able to bring a cooler, and I'll see about bringing a case or two of drinks of some sort (pop/juice/diet pop/water/whatever). Confirmation on this in a week or so.

Tim Tams and Vegemite sandwiches.* I'll also cook something that's needed once I'm there. I do good salads and deserts.

Remember we can't just have desserts. :P

And thank you for starting this thread.

I assuming we'll get something from a local store...

Not sure if it will be something Pamela can throw together (I can't cook worth a crap), or some kind of party tray.

For now, just put me down for a non-dessert food item of some sort.

Ever eat too much candy as a kid?

Multiply that by forty.

We can't have our just desserts?!

I'm hoping to have some fresh ears of Nebraska corn to bring on the plane with me. If that doesn't work out, though, I can always call Omaha Steaks and have them send something over.

I'm sure that's a scientific impossibility. Corn from Nebraska? Sweet!
