The WCCA's 2006 schedule!

Post by Zortic »

The schedule has been finalized for this year?s Web Cartoonists? Choice Awards. The process will begin on May 15th when the nomination round begins. At this point, eligible cartoonists will be allowed to register and begin choosing nominees based on their work within the previous year. The nomination round will run until May 29th.

On June 12th the top nominees in each category will be announced and the polls will open once again for the final voting round. The final polls will remain open until July 10th with the winners being announced on July 17th. Please note that this is different from previous years in that the polls will now be open through Sunday with announcements appearing on Monday. This is to allow voters more freedom to examine potential comics over their weekend.

Also note that it?s not too late to join the WCCA planning committee. All levels of involvement are needed. In addition to some ?executive? positions, which are still open, simply being part of the decision-making committee can be a huge help. The only way this process can grow and mature is through the active participation of an eager committee. If you?re interested in joining the WCCA planning committee, please email Mark Mekkes at zortic@yahoo.com.

We're hoping for a great year with some exciting changes. So please keep watching the website at http://www.ccawards.com for more details.

Hey, I had a question about eligibilty. My comic strip started September of 2005, but it actually started as a weekly strip in my school paper. Now I do it four times a week and is hosted on CG, but my paper still prints it in its weekly issues. I graduate this year as well, so this will actually be the only year it'll be in the school paper. Would I not qualify for the awards then? Will I ever, since it technically started in a paper?

You should definately qualify as a voter, and personally I don't see any reason why you wouldn't qualify as a nominee.

If you are nominated it will come up to the committee who would have to unanimously agree that you don't qualify. Since it's doubtful that many of us in the committee have access to your school paper, I don't think there'd be any problem with you qualifying.

But I do appreciate you honesty.
