Are they frikkin' KIDDING me ...?
'Reality T.V.', long the scourge of my television-viewing existence, has hit a new, all-time low in my book. Bad enough that there had to be 'Big Brother', worse by far that I had to suffer the notion people were demented enough to play 'Temptation island' (if you're not sure of your relationship, don't throw your partner at glorified hookers/gigolos!), but now this ... 'Who's your daddy'.
A television channel over where I live had the unmitigated gall to say which channels "didn't have the guts" to show it, to make itself look tough and strong now it, yes, it was daring to air this monstrosity. The premise is one woman has to pick her real father, whom she's never met, from a group of strangers. If she picks the right one, she gets a cash prize ...
What is WRONG with those people?! I seem to recall shows about people being reunited with long-lost family members were occasions for tears, joy and other strong emotions! This is not something to sling into a stupidity T.V.-show format, dammit!
This thing really irritated me ... Have these people not a single shred of decency left in their whole being? It's a new, all-time low.

Programming caters to the lowest common denominator, as we all know.
Unfortunately, our lowest common denominator is falling ever lower, as is the level of idiocy or emotional distress it takes to raies an eyebrow, and inspire feelings of "being amused".
Sad, isn't it?
It's somewhat akin to how difficult it is to find something in the "Google Seppuku" thread that actually makes everyone cringe...25 years ago, EVERYONE would have cringed over the "duck in a blender" video, circulating on the net, would have provoked cries of outrage from most viewers, DESPITE the fact that anyone who viewed it carefully could easily tell it was faked (stopped filming before dropping the live duckling in, started filming again, dropped a "special effects" mockup in, and hit the button)...today, MOST people who viewed it were so unmoved that they were ABLE to give it that close attention that revealed that it was faked.
That same ability through desensitization to watch something that WOULD have been "shocking and disgusting" not so long ago without being moved enough that you couldn't really pay attention, while trying to decide "is this real?" has lead to worse and worse schlock on TV shows that are based on TRYING to elicit an emotional response, one way or another, out of the viewers...and it's ALWAYS been easier to go for shock and disgust than real laughter and "warm fuzzies".

I'll admit that I don't know which country you're posting from, but if it's in North America, this is quite possible the longest case of delayed reaction I've ever seen.
If not, I'm rather surprised that Fox actually exported it; it was a disaster all around.

This issue tugs on my heartstrings a lot. I was born using an A. I. procedure, and thus, have never met my real father. I would love to so much...but such an emotional event reduced to something as base as greed?
Goddamnit all -_-;

I'm posting from coastal Europe. Fox was mentioned, I believe, as having canceled the show. Of course, then the aforementioned "but we've got the cojones to play it anyway"-B.S. came into play.Toawa wrote:I'll admit that I don't know which country you're posting from, but if it's in North America, this is quite possible the longest case of delayed reaction I've ever seen.

I'm sorry if I've brought you distress, HNC ... It just ticked me off so bad and I needed to vent ... and check whether I was really the only person who's disgusted by that stupidity-T.V. program.HoneyNClover wrote:This issue tugs on my heartstrings a lot. He demands obeisance in the form of oral sex, or he'll put you at the mercy of his tentacles. Even after performing obeisance, you might be on the receiving ends of tentacles anyway. In this case, pray to Sodomiticus to intercede on your behalf.

Come off it. Like any show exported from the states has any substance to it? Sitcoms, law shows, reality TV, nearly all are total crap. Why pay this one any more attention? I don't find it any more offensive than anything else that wastes my time.
Eunuch McNonuts won't let me pick up the slack on the comic. I suggest emailing him your complaints.

No, you bringing it up didn't distress me, it's just the concept of it...and I certainly understand the need to vent.Error of Logic wrote:I'm sorry if I've brought you distress, HNC ... Simple. We don't allow blood sports. So we have a "theater of cruelty" where we draw tears instead of blood. Temptation Island? The Swan (gods below, what an abomination)? The "You're Fired!" Apprentice? American Idol? This piece of crap? They're designed to put people through the emotional meat grinder so we can point and clap when bloody flesh comes out the other end.
I take some pride in never having seen an episode of any of them.

"It is the difference between the unknown and the unknowable, between science and fantasy - it is a matter of essence. The four points of the compass be logic, knowledge, wisdom and the unknown. Some do bow in that final direction. Others advance upon it. To bow before the one is to lose sight of the three. I may submit to the unknown, but never to the unknowable. The man who bows in that final direction is either a saint or a fool. I have no use for either."

Saddly, in the manga, when Hidiki switched Chii (its actually Cho for the first couple of issues for some reason) to the on position, there was lots of nudity but no PLISH sound. I guess I've read too much Vanity Angel.. I kind of expect it to go PLISH.. cause PLISH is such a great onomatopoeia
