I had an eye test yesterday and I'm slightly longsighted. Not a problem in ordinary circumstances - but working with surface mount components the size of cat fleas are not ordinary circumstances!
Well on the bright side work might pay for the eye test, so that's a little off the bill... But I need the glasses now for work, and probably reading and drawing.

There's always surgeury; I know this guy, Vinnie, he hangs out around third street, yaknow? He'll fix you right up, presto, thirty-five dollars. He'll be the guy with the hammer 'an chisle and the one lazy eye. Just follow the sound of screams. No pain, no gain, ya know whaddahm sayin'?
Um, I hear from my eye doctor, who used to do laser surgery, that he wouldn't recomment that kind of stuff unless you were physically incapable of wearing glasses and contacts. He quit after he made a woman's vision even worse.
This thread reminded me that I really need some new glasses. I haven't worn mine for about three years now because the frames are all bent and I don't like the way they look on me. I also stopped wearing my contacts because it was such a hassle to put them in every morning and take them out every night. I'm lazy, what can I say? 8)
At least you're farsighted. Means your glasses will be convex, like magnifying glasses, so you can set things on fire with them. Us shortsighted folks have #@$!@# stupid concave lenses that diffuse sunlight and spread darkness underneath them. While that's nifty in its own special way, it doesn't beat portable fire-generators.
And you can take them on airplanes.

When I was in highschool, I got one pair of prescription sunglasses, and the school admins would try to make me take them off, but I said I couldn't afford another pair of glasses, so they had to let me wear them.
ack, sorry hon. As a long time glasses wearer, now contacts or glasses wearer, i feel your pain. good luck getting good ones or finding a good alternative....

Go for 'Solo Nite & Day' Contacts...back when I could afford them I would just put 'em in one morning, then wear them for up to 30 nights continuously (nite and day) throw them out after the 30-nites were up, sleep without contacts for one nite then start the whole cycle over again.
They worked great for me

good luck with the new glasses. beats walking around with under-correction. did that for a while. the headaches were agonizing.
"It is the difference between the unknown and the unknowable, between science and fantasy - it is a matter of essence. The four points of the compass be logic, knowledge, wisdom and the unknown. Some do bow in that final direction. Others advance upon it. To bow before the one is to lose sight of the three. I may submit to the unknown, but never to the unknowable. The man who bows in that final direction is either a saint or a fool. I have no use for either."

On surgery; it's not enough of a problem to worry about surgery - if I had never started the job I'm in now I'd have never known about being longsighted. Besides, funnily enough I'm looking forward to wearing them
On Anti-glare and Scratch Resistant coating; done and done. That's why the lenses are costing me ?80.
On fire-lighting; Coooooooooooooooooooooolllllllll
On appearance; photo to follow in two weeks. New AV probably sooner.
