So, lyke...

Post by Indigo Violent »

Whenever I try to look at ghastlycomic.com in Firefox 1.5, I get pages of what I can only describe as "computer gibberish" (yes, very technical, I know). It's okay in other browsers.

yeah... there's still some stuff that firefox doesn't support... and some other stuff it gives up in favor of enhanced security...

Someone should pervert that Franklin quote...

"They who would give up interesting functionality for system security, deserve neither functionality nor security."
"We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered...."

I had a color blind friend with the same basic outlook...

As long as you don't actually know you're missing about half of the world, it has no way to bother you that it's not there. ;-)

I don't notice issues with Ghastly, but since switching to 1.5 I am getting some directx errors with WoW. If I log off and back on or restart it's fine.

Seriously, I love you, but computer security and Ben Franklin's quote just don't go together.

Seriously, I love you too... But 1) it's just regular humor. nobody needs to get hurt. and 2) like most humor, it's born of a kernal of truth. Yeah. they really do go together.

There are, for instance, a relatively small percentage of computer viruses that can cripple your system's performance as effectively as installing and running Norton Anti-Virus. As another example, the safer the browser, the lower the percentage of available content you'll be able to see. This isn't theory... It's not opinion... It's demonstrable - and not only demonstrable, but dead obvious - fact.

Whether the added security is worth the loss in functionality... That is open to debate and opinion. If you're talking about the UNIX boxes one of my friend uses to run a nuclear power plant, I think it's worth it. If you're talking the desktop of the average computer user who wants to experience the intarweb, well, that';s for his to say. If you're talking -my- system... then no, it's not.

And now whenever I try to go to the homepage I end up getting the March 12, 2002 page for Something Positive. This is fucked up.

Well to be fair to firefox, you can have it spread its binary legs as wide as the microsoft offering should you wish to, its realy becoming a lot more compatible in reacent builds, and hey I for one am willing to give up on some of the more flashy internet features out there for slightly faster loading and tabbed browsing.
