A few things first...

If you are not familiar with how comicgenesis works, make sure to read the Gear.

The index.html file in the public_html folder is created off indextemplate.html in the workspace folder. Unless you are 100% certain of what you are doing, you shouldn't have to touch anything in the public_html folder.

Now... What exactly is the problem? What error messages do you get? Have you downloaded dailytemplate.html, edited it, then tried to re-upload the new version or did you try to edit it straight on the server?

Three things:

-do you download dailytemplate.html to your comp, edit it, then re-upload it to your account (what you should do)? Or do you edit the file straight on the server (what you shouldn't do)?

-is the file named EXACTLY dailytemplate.html? Meaning all lowercase, and the extension is .html, not .htm.

-link to your site please. (ETA: oops, forget that, got it already.) (EATA: unless you are not talking about darkdays.comicgenesis.com ?)
