Other Webcomics--Recommendations?

Postby Adobedragon on Sat Jun 09, 2007 3:18 pm

Although I've got a rather long list of comics in my Links section, I'm always looking for something new to add to my reading list. Some of the comics in Links have either "jumped the shark," or stopped updating. (In both cases, I haven't the heart to delete their links.)

There are currently several "on deck," meaning I'm planning on adding them to the Links section...eventually. For example, Dreamkeepers-- a "furry" comic with smart dialogue and an art style vaguely reminiscent of another fave, Lackadaisy.

Nowadays, I get my political snark from blogs, but Sore Thumbs, a comic about a hot liberal girl who goes to work in a comic store with her right-wing lunatic brother, is a hoot.

The Transcendent is still in what I call evaluation mode, meaning it's bookmarked, and provided it keeps updating and doesn't develop a case of the Suck, I'll add it to links. The art is gorgeous and the lyrical, dark writing reminds me a bit of the Sandman series.

More later...but I gotta feed my dogs...

What are you reading?

It takes about half and hour to go through all of that on a daily basis and an hour and a half to write it all out a correct mistakes.

Heh. I hear ya. I can read over something I write, several times; it'll look just fine; then, immediately after I hit "submit/post," I spot several fugly typos. Argh! *Head desk*

I lurve, lurve, lurve Girl Genius. I started reading Darken a while back, but didn't get far...probably because I was sneaking reads in at work. I'll definitely have to get back to that one. The use of traditional anti-heroes as "heroes" intrigues me.

Dr McNinja is wonderfully original and wacky and American Gothics's watercolors are a neat change from the usual media in webcomics.

What a great list! *wanders off to check out the one's I haven't visited.*

Thanks.

Oh, I forgot Purgatory Tower. Snappy dialogue and great art. (Unfortunately, it's over at Drunk Duck, and takes forever to load on my dial-up connection.)

Wolf has captivated me at the moment. Another Drunk Duck comic (oy vey, the load time), the creator is a writer-turned-artist. Although there is certainly room for improvement, the art already possesses a kind of charm that suggests it will get better, much better. Sort of like early pages of LinT, despite shaky art, the writing suggests a writer who can put together a good yarn. In the beginning, the hand lettering is rather hard to read, but it gets better. Basically, a comic to watch.

I'm also watching Catalyst. I can't tell if the update schedule is regular (like I should talk), but the art is lovely, and the concept seems fresh. That is to say, it's fantasy, with the usual young, pretty/handsome protagonists, but there are many original elements. I.e., it's built on something more than the usual RPG tropes.

And now the NSFW files,

Feathers A new take on the after life, yuri, and the spinoff site Moonlight Feathers also yuri, alot of yuri, Flux Time fractured world where Ceaser kills a girls parents with a djin and she promptly kills Ceaser for his efforts and is now the companion of the djin, Otenba Files Tomboy yuri but mostly fantasy adventure, well done, Sam the Black Night Scimpy clothing for everyone! an art student awakes to find he is in the body of the legendary Black Knight, nakedness ensues and preempts, (Sic) Drawn by men about "their" life semibiographical, it's alright, Thunderstruck Awesome, really good, 2 sisters find out they have special powers and head to New Orleans to track down the man that caused it.

hmmm didn't take that long, and also...

Somthing Positive if you can make it past the abortion joke in the first comic it actually becomes a good seris, only up to 2006 in the archives but it's good, really somthing I needed right now, very good to know that I'm not the only one severe trust issues that are justified by nearly every single encounter with other humans.

There is also a list of inactive ones but I'll just post the link to my Online Comics members page once (if) the sever starts working again.

That's all for now but I currently have about 160 comics in my "Comics to read folder," I did say I read too much right?

Wow! Thatsa lotta comics.

*Perusing the NSFW list, because I'm a perv.

Anyhoo, I love the art at Aldus Maycomb and Paradigm Shift is nifty, except it doesn't update fast enough. Candi is pretty cute and No Need for Bushido is always a riot. I just recent found Pointless, largely because the artwork really appeals to me.

Hmmm. The Batman fanfic looks intriguing.

Everyone loves the NSFW except when it's at work

Alright now for some completed comics
The Cynical King precoursor to Nobody Scores, ends abruptly, Infested a SciFi comic drawn entirely in 24 hours, April & May and June Two girls meet in college and eventullay adopted a kid together, ends abruptly with a 9/11 twist, sad, The Front Three teens with superpowers, Tales From the Front Spin off of "The Front," A Miracle of Science where mad science is a diease, hmmm.... should see my doctor then, Makeshift Miracle An interesting journey into dreams.

Currently reading Flipside fantasy, the opening has an intriguing take on sexuality that ties into the opening statment.

Ok this should link to my favorites page at Online Comics.net which is nice in some ways as I can just link people to a portion of my comics list, it's also helpful in recommending comics when I'm looking for a particular type.

Not that I ever run out of comics to read. which reminds me that I have seven books to read before Harry Potter comes out next week.

I will still try to update here on new comics I'm watching or have read.
