For those couple of you out there who know me, you'll know I love to comment on the latest comic going's on. Here you'll find those comments.

I'm finished with the layout of this week's comic and I'll begin inking tonight and paint tomorrow.

In the latest Dragonaur, Rhea the demon has found a living host for her spirit in Xara the heroine of my comic! Rhea is wasting no time in getting down to the pleasures of living. Arai should be a happy man. Er, he is a dude you know!

Here's the current comic...

Oh yeah, because Arai just looks ecstatic to have this amazingly gorgeous fire demon/dragon hanging off of him. It's kind of like she's hugging a birch tree.

Come on. Arai. Buuuuddy. Loosen up a lil'.

For some reason, Arai doesn't strike me as the type of guy to get many women. I mean, he had to try and enslave Xara in the beginning of the comic.

I bet he'd be one of those lame dates where he is all quiet and would let the girl pay for everything. "I seem to have forgot my wallet in my other kimono..." Jerk. heh :D

Kitty Quixotic, QuadManX: Welcome to the new forum. It looks like you both joined just yesterday. Thanks for stopping by so soon! I know it's such a drag to manage yet another password. So I'm extra appreciative!

Kitty Quixotic: Yes, Arai doesn't have much emotion. And wait until you see the next page. You'll see just how much he cares for Rhea! I need to give Arai a "Naruto" moment where he explains his weird psycho outlook on life like both Gaara and Kimimaru have.

But if he can stand there like that with a babe hanging on him like that he must be made of stone or something!

Oh yes, did you see I've put your "Dragonaur Mythologies" question back up in the forum! They're just too good to just toss!

Fred Perry has a very complex set of magic "rules" for his characters that I'm pouring over. I'll never get that heavy duty but I've definitely been giving more thought to how I want magic to work in my universe.

QuadManX: Well, I was never super clear about that. But Arai really just want's Xara for her body, heh heh, a body for Rhea to possess. I've definitely got to figure out a way for Rhea to use some super demon powers so we can see what he's really after! Then maybe we'll see him crack a smile.

Yes, he's the type to forget his wallet in another kimono!

Gaaaahhh!

Postby Dragonaur on Sun Apr 08, 2007 3:38 pm

So you're on a date with this great fire demon possessed dragoness and she starts geting "interested" to you. Whatever you do, don't tell her to bug off! >_<

Rhea was really in an amorous mood! Some things just don't happen when you are in an insubstantial demon form! And Arai just blew her off! Poor girl. It's got to make you wonder about Arai's motivations. But I think Rhea's are very clear!

As for Rhea, what's the next human obsession? Why eating, of course! I don't know if you caught the reference. But Rhea refered to Arai as a "heart beat." It's a derogatory demon term for the living. Tho' for the moment Rhea is one of "them" as well!

This was a fun page to make. I know I've been serious and all in my comic but I've been in such a great mood these last couple of years, I'm starting to re-think things a little. The comic is always going to be a "drama" but it definitely needs a few light moments now and again. I used to think of Rhea as about as evil as I could make her. But perhaps, despite her fiery nature, she might just be cold blooded, jealous, selfish and completely driven to become alive again. Pretty much your average human! ;-)

Now Arai, well we will see his true colors at the end of this current plotline.

=\ I'm under the impression that Arai just wants her because she's a badass demon rather than because they connect on a personal level. And we know what this means. It means RHEA DOESN'T GET TO SCORE.

Come ooooon Rhea. You're better than him. How did Arai ever get the attention of such a babe? Geez guy.

At least she gets comfort food.

I think Rhea needs to slap a foo'. And I definitely don't mean Lawrence.

I'm sure many a soul has asked that question when looking at relationships! Tho' hopefully Rhea won't take advantage of too much comfort food! While I was graduate school I gained 15 lbs via comfort food! Took a year and a half to get it back off! ^_^

Would Rhea be gaing the extra weight from comfort food...or would Xara? Rhea is just borrowing Xara's body, afterall. Probably bail out if Xara's body got to pudgy...hehe Pudgy Xara...

Xara would so beat me up for that one, if she were around here. :D

This is one of those pages where I wish I had worked out the dialog before I made the sketches. I often have a vague idea of the dialog and then draw a pic to match. Here the idea is to have Rhea, who possessed Xara, show her worth to the boorish Arai. So I made a sort of monster kobold/dragonish thing. However, I really should have looked up gargoyles to get a better looking monster. Even a troll would have been more interesting! I did spend some time with him. At first he had more of a bat's head. But I thought using a mix of demon and dragon magic, it would be more natural for a kobold reptile monster.

In any event it's pretty weak. But, once again I've got to leave it for next time because today is passing quickly! Just got to go with what I have.

So now we see that Rhea doesn't mind making a few threats of her own! The monster wasn't fun to draw but the rest I did enjoy. That last panel with a little perspective felt great to figure out! Rhea is looking quite relaxed and happy with herself. She doesn't seem to worried about Laurence and Triona.

Kitty Quixotic was urging Rhea to drop Arai, but both Arai and Rhea seem to be feed off of each other in a somewhat unhealthy relationship! Each trying to one up the other!

And what the heck are they up to? Well, hopefully we'll see next week!

I dunno. I find that quite a bit more interesting than a troll. Trolls aren't all spikey and stuff.

But anyway...Rhea continues to amuse me. Is she like a genie or something in that she can just conjure whatever she wants? Or is it just elemental spells or something like that?

Also, Arai saying "amusing" in response to a giant rock monster appearing out of nowhere made me lol even though I'm supposed to be really quiet right now. Congrats.

Rhea is still considerably too awesome for him, but I do enjoy them as a duo. Arai has his own perks. Though in my opinion Rhea would have to be kind of desperate to get all rawr on HIM.

No poetry in his soul at all.

Well, my gargoyle like creature seems to be going over ok and all. But I really need to work out the looks of these dragon shape faces. Not at all easy. I've been working on Xara's dragon form and it's a hard thing to make her look nice but still be a dragon!

Oh, did you get a tooth pulled? I hope all is well.

We will definitely find out what motivates Rhea towards the end of this story arc. It shouldn't take too long now. Tho' today we see that Rhea's current grip on life is anchored on Arai's even tho' Rhea possessed Xara. Arai's spell holds everything together.

As for her powers, she is a demoness and had defeated all the demons in the pocket universe she had inhabited. As such she can draw apon the powers she had accumulated while queen of her reign. Hopefully I'll get to that in the next page or two. We'll see where Rhea comes from when we catch up with Xara and hopefully I'll remember to explain a few things!

When I read that you were working on Xara's full dragon form, I couldn't help but laugh when the image of "Puff the magic dragon" popped into mind. Of course, that's not what Xara will look like, but the idea of something so cartoony and...well...dumb looking, would be such a contrast to the cute Xara that we all know and love. As if she knew she had a dragon form, but was embarassed about it. heh

As I said on your Deviant page, I think the gargoyle looks cool. There are all sorts of gargoyles out there. I think their design might be a cultural thing. European gargoyles are probably seen the most, on all the gothic architecture of churches and such.

The gargoyle that you drew reminds me more of something that might be seen in Central and South America or perhaps even from as far as Indonesia. I'm not up to date on my world cultures, but those are the areas of the world that I am most reminded of.

Lastly...Rhea is a hoot. heh (yeah, that last comment was constructive...)

Xara has never seen her dragon form! No one has seen her dragon form! She knows very little about herself. But she'll be finding out more within the next page or two.

Well, I'll try to do a little more research on ths gargoyle. I'd like him to look a little better next time I draw him! This would be a fun dude to animate. Being stone he'd be big and heavy. Slow moving with pounding feet. It would make for a great scene in a video game!

I'm trying to make Rhea more free spirited than Xara. Xara has gotten quite conservative since loosing her battle to Triona. She's much less sure of herself and worried about her prospects in the world. Fortunately she turned away from a true dragon's life. Rhea is always going to be that little devil in your ear type egging you on to do bad or selfish things!

Family reunion time!

I don't know about you, being detached and all, but I always get teary eyed at reunions! Here is our original miss, Xara! Speaking of being detached, she doesn't look like her normal self! Definitely a "shadow" of herself. And she also seems to have let her guard down a little. She called her father "Daddy" for the first time. Well, it's not every day you wander around with the un-dead. Poor Xara has been through so very much lately you'll have to forgive the slip. Of course, given her mom, I don't think it is too hard for Xara to become a daddy's girl, since her mom is such a witch!

And who's that in the crystal you ask? Why it's Trista! Not quite as exploded as we might have thought. Her status will be described in the next pages.

While the last page was a struggle to draw, today's just rolled right off of the pencil. It was a shear pleasure to draw. It is simple I'll admit yet again. But I really like how we slowly move in close to Xara. It's one of the problems I always have in my comic. I ask myself is this continuous enough. This is totally different than the "strip" style comics. There has to be more continuity. I think one of the problems that I used to have is that the pages were so continuous that nothing ever happened! So I'm clearly pushing in the direction of the strip style comic's but just enough to keep you few readers from falling asleep!

And speaking of stripping, it's "nude" Xara! Don't say I never drew her that way! Well, she's not really nude. But she's taken on that insubstantial consistancy like Rhea once had. Tho' in a very different presentation. If any of you can guess why Xara looks as she does I'll be extra surprised!

I could have spent precious panels having Xara's father search, but what the heck. Let's just get that part over. In any event, here we are with Xara. And I think it's time Xara had a good father daughter talk about life the universe and everything. Don't you?

I think I know why Xara is all like she is...it has to do with her being all black and white, like an Oreo cookie! No? Then I got nothin'...

Anywho, yet another good page to add to the filing cabinet. Xara being "nude" is a good thing. Xara being a "daddy's girl" is a bit surprising, because she never met him before falling into that box earlier, but understandable since her mom wasn't so good and all.

Well she was rather emo the first time she met her dad. I suppose it would have been more natural to make her a "bitch" and all but since she is the heroine of my comic, I can't have that! Clearly, there is no reason for Xara to like her mother, but it's a little easier for her to like her father; no real bad memories and all.

Plus, it was a good time for Xara to meet her father that first time. She just got over a really bad time and so she was much more receptive to being nice since every one else was treating her with great respect. Most villians would walk all over that kind of good will. But Xara isn't truly evil so I think it works out in the end.

Think about it: You just lost your corporal self, you're blasted into a neither world, and lo - you find some of your past evil handiwork there in front of you. It really seemed that the "new" Xara would be quite worked up at the moment.

A "new" Xara eh? Please tell me that this isn't going to lead into "Dragonaur Z".

"Super-Saiyan" Xara just doesn't seem right...though, thinking about it, that would be kind of interesting to draw up.

Xara with spikey, golden hair, surrounded by an aura of yellow energy that is crackling with lightning. LOL

I'm sorry... -_-;;

I hate Super Saiyans! It was the single worst development in "Dragon Ball" Alas, I stopped collecting that series at around number 18.

So don't worry that won't happen. Xara isn't quite dead! Her father will explain very soon.

Hey, he is a provider, after all, and Rhea's just a matterial girl ...er disembodies demon.... She's in it for what she can get, and that's a sexy new body. As matterial possessions go, that's way better than being given a new dress or some junk jewellery.
