Hey folks. Have you noticed that the quality of video game magazines has dwindled in the past five years? Anyone remember when Electronic Gaming Monthly magazines were almost as thick as those Computer Shopper magazines?
Anyway, I still subscribe to EGM even though it's crappy. Why? Well my little brother Jeff was selling magazine subscriptions for his school and if he ordered enough he would get a T-shirt. So I ordered magazines until he had enough for the shirt (luckily it was just two).
So my new issue of EGM came today, which was a godsend seeing as though I'm sick as a dog (but I did go to the doctor today so I'll be better soon). Anyway, among all the pointless trite in the June issue (Tony Hawk on the cover) there was actually one good article in the whole mess (no, the June issue isn't the one for you Pac-Man fans, just keep reading).
Anyway, the one good article interviews game desingers of some of the most classic well-known games. They interviewed David Crane (Pitfall), the guy who did Street Fighter 2, Ed Logg of Atari fame and the guy who created Tetris (I know his name, but I am not going to attempt to spell it).
At the end of the article they said that in the next issue, they were going to follow up with an interview of a classic game developer every month. So in next month's EGM, they are going to interview Toru Iwatani--the creator of Pac-Man! Can't wait!
But that won't be until next month's issue. The most interesting interview in this issue was the one with the Tetris guy. He said his current favorite puzzle game is Bust A Move (Puzzle Bobble) and his favorite video game character is Pac-Man "because he never gets tired."
Well that's all for now. Now I am going to watch two new videos that I ordered: King George and the Ducky and 321 Penguins! to see which one I'll give my 2-year-old brother for his birthday this week. Don't know what I'm talking about? Then head over to www.bigidea.com. Later!
--Klonoa

Well if you read the previous post carefully you would've realized that I'm a bit under the weather today with a sinus infection. It's really hard for me to sleep when I can't breathe, so I'm bored at the computer. Please try to hold back your sympathy.
And if you also read the previous post carefully you would know that by now I have already viewed the aforementioned videos that I plan to give to one of my brothers as a birthday present. So I will review those now.
I ordered King George and the Ducky because it was one of the only VeggieTales videos I haven't seen yet. In case you haven't noticed I'm on a VeggieTales kick lately (don't worry, it'll soon pass). Anyway, King George and the Ducky has quickly become my LEAST favorite VeggieTales video. The humor in the main story is very lacking and it's just plain weird. And they left a lot of open holes, like whatever became of the pie wars? Jimmy and Jerry Gourd did a better job of hosting the show at the beginning, and I liked their story better: "The Englishman Who Walked Up a Hill and Came Down With All the Bananas." I also liked the "Bible Verse" that the Gourds had: "Don't be Selfish." Then the main story came on and ruined everything. And the Silly Song in the middle could've been taken WAAAAYYY out of context.
By now you're probably wondering, "Gee Cary, why are you telling us this? Most of the people here on this message board have probably never seen a VeggieTales video, so we have no idea what you're talking about!" Well that may be true, but you have to realize that I'm sick and also bored.
But the other video I ordered was awesome! It's made by the same people as VeggieTales (Big Idea), except it's a computer animated video about not just ordinary penguins...but SPACE penguins! The video is called 3-2-1 Penguins! You remember the 3-D intro to Pac-Man World? I thought that intro was one of the only times that computer animation has come close to matching the feel of a quality 2-D cartoon. Well 3-2-1 Penguins also does that! It's like a cross between a Chuck Jones Duck Dodgers cartoon mixed with a little bit of Red Dwarf (most of the characters have British accents). And like everything else Big Idea does, the video teaches a Christian value or moral. But it's not quite as heavy-handed as VeggieTales. The scene in 3-2-1 Penguins! where the kids are trying to hook up their video game system to their grandma's TV is priceless. I'm sure we've all had a similar experience like that.
Well I'm tired of typing so I'll stop now.
--Klonoa

Sorry, but the only Big Idea product available on DVD is Lyle: the Kindly Viking. You'll just have to settle for VHS for 3-2-1 Penguins!
--Klonoa
