OK, time to kick start this message board. Anyway, by looking at the title of this message, you may be thinking something gross and perverted, but that's not what this message is about. I'm going to talk about two games: Sheep and Final Fantasy 9, and that's what the names combine to.
First is Sheep, a PlayStation game by Mind's Eye. Why should Pac-Fans and classic gamers care about Sheep? Well, Mind's Eye was also responsible for Pac-Man Adventures in Time. You can really tell it's the same people because lots of the music sounds EXACTLY the same. Mind's Eye must like those fakey snare drum rolls! The other thing about this game that should impress classic gamers is that the graphics look like they came from the 16-bit era. Most people would look down on that, but not us classic gamers I suppose. Besides, Sheep is pretty innovative, and like when Namco released Mr. Driller on the modern consoles, it really impresses me that Mind's Eye has the balls to release Sheep as well.
It's really hard to classify Sheep in a genre of games. It's a little bit like Lemmings but it's mostly fast paced arcade action. The trick is to bunch up your sheep and guide them past obstacles. You can guide your sheep to machines that'll give them armor or tanks to drive in and then you can herd your sheep into obstacles to knock them over. You can get bonuses for guiding your sheep into other weird stuff like paint pools or Jenga blocks or dominoes. Since there's four types of sheep to use once per level, there's a bit of strategy involved when you must decide if it's better to use the more aggressive sheep or the docile sheep on a particular level. Sheep is for PSX and PC, so give it a try, OK?
Now I'm sure most of you gamers have heard enough about FF9, but I have to talk about it anyway because I just got it and I'm very pleased with it. It's a throwback to some of the older FF games, so you've got your Moogles and SD characters and it's all cool. Vivi, Steiner, and Quina are my favorite characters, but most of the characters are kind of cool. Zidane, the main character, isn't a whiny wuss (he's a Mac), and Freya's cool in a "Secret of Nimh" sort of way. The only boring character is Princess Garnish (that's what I call her anyway). I like the SD characters but Garnish looks really weird in SD. And the game's not too complex either so even me and my feeble brain can figure it out.
But I have to gripe on some things just a little bit. The game is 4 CDs long, but don't think that that's 4 CDs of gameplay. There's tons of FMV sequences, and it's really noticeable. I was only a little over ten hours in the game when it told me to change to disc 2! Now that's bad. Plus there's tons of random enemy encounters, so it's like you take 2 steps and fight an enemy sometimes. That's not too bad but it gets a teen bit annoying sometimes. I also think that FF9 has a little bit of that "assembly line" feel to it.
Well I think that's all I'll say for now, so respond if you feel like it. Or don't, I don't care. Bye!
--Klonoa

It's still at least fun, and hella better than FF8. SAMBA DE AMIGO!!!!!!!!!! I've been playing that game so much my arms hurt. The characters rock in this game are great, too. Amigo and gay ass cat guy Rio kick ass. They even have the theme song from Austin Powers in it and.... oh wait, we're taqlking about FF9. The entire story in FF9 centers around Black Mages, NUFF SAID! If that isn't enough to buy a FF game, I don't know what is.
------------------

One more thing I'd like to add about Final Fantasy is that one of the reasons why I liked the older ones better is that in battles
the monsters were just still pictures, but they were retouched scanned Amano artwork. Even though they didn't move, it gave
the monsters a sense of style and detail and it was fun just to look at them. I really don't like Amano's human character
sketches but I like the way he draws monsters. The PSX Final Fantasies have all had 3-D polygon monsters, and yeah they
move and stuff but that artsy style isn't there anymore.
--Klonoa
