Waku Waku 7 rant:You know who Rai reminds me of? Terry Bogard. He does have some different moves, but he has a Power Wave-like projectile and a Burn Knuckle-like attack. And he has sort of a Power Geyser-like super. Okay, it's more like Geese Howard's Raging Storm, but the smash-fist-into-ground bit is so "Pawaa... GEYSER!!!".Arina's stage music is so... unique, and nice too. It's not the first time I've heard such a thing, though; Roll's MvC1 music was my first, and that was nice as well. But still, a nice song with actual lyrics is, well, a nice change. It'd be nice if there were more songs in fighting games. And, yes, I've said 'nice' too many times <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/tongue.gif">I don't get it. WW7 is a kickass game. How come I've never heard of it until only recently? Lousy distribution, that's what it most likely is. I hardly see Neo Geo games in my area. 'Tis sad. Not all Neo Geo games suck. Twinkle Star Sprites rant:Was it high fashion back then for villains to look like females but sound like males? Case in point: Mevious, the villain of the only competitive shooter that I've seen (and liked too ^_^ ). When I first saw her, I thought "So I'm fighting a bitch queen, eh?". Then, I heard his voice. I said nothing for a while, then thought "He must be one of Amakusa's relatives.". Amakusa, as any Samurai Shodown fan would know, was also a fag; looks like a female but sounds like a male. So what other boss in what other game is a fag?!?Damn, the score resets when I continue. At least they let me in the hi-score if my previous score reached it, but it still sucks. I end up with a low score when I finally finish the game, and get a lousy rating. Damn and damn again. Well, maybe I should just practice more, aim for not continuing...I like the story. Too bad it's only limited to the main girl, Ran. Well, at least the other characters get an ending. Y'know, they can easily make an anime out of this game. Actually, there already is one. AeroFighters rant:I've played 2 and 3, but not 1. In fact, I've never even seen it. Well, I think I have, but it was on some obscure corner of a faraway arcade... I dunno... I'll probably never see it again.At first, the bosses in 2 were quite normal. Giant planes, big ships, cool mecha. Then, it got weird in the end. A monkey riding a spaceship for a sub-boss? And a black eyeball thingy for a final boss (I like to call him "The Black Eye of Chaos")? And sometimes, the final boss wasn't the eyeball, but some weirdass ghost?!And 3, that was weeeeiiiiiird. There were still a few normal bosses. A few. Then we see some desert squid thing, the thing that morphs to a giant flying seaship or a giant version of your plane, the ghost/monkey mix, the submarine, the monkey/eyeball conglomo, the spinning UFO, the domino schoolgirl thingy..... It makes you question the reality of the AeroFighters universe. It also makes you wonder just what the fwak Video Systems (the evil bastards behind the game) was smoking when they made that game. Then again, they made a dolphin pilot, and Yamcha likes him. Double then again, they made a little girl pilot with an airline waitress of a mother as her escort, and I like them both. So, who are we to question the reality of the AeroFighters universe?!? You travel, you shoot, you dodge, you blow up stuff, you power up, you fight boss after boss, you bomb, you jack up your score, and then boom, one bullet hits you and you die. You come back, but with all your powers gone, your bomb count resetted, and sometimes you have to repeat one part of the level. But sometimes, they try not to make it all so bad. When you die, you leave behind power-ups for you to grab to somewhat get back onto your feet. Sometimes, your bomb count stays the way it is. No more pounding yourself on the head for not using a bomb to save your life. But sometimes, neither of these are true. Which means that you're now facing this extremely hard boss, and what do you have to fight it with? A puny shot and a couple of bombs. Wheefun -_-Some shooters, though, have multiple hitpoints rather than multiple lives. At least now you don't have to worry about making one minor mistake, taking one miniscule bullet, and blowing up from it. You don't need to worry about losing your powers and bombs (but sometimes, you downgrade in power when you get hit) in one hit. And sometimes, you can get life ups to keep yourself going. The only downside to this, though, is that you only have one life. You die, you stay dead. Game over. Of course, being able to take multiple hits before that happens, that'll take a while.Getting hit is inevitable, no matter how good you are. The best thing you can do is avoid all manner of attacks and take the least number of hits. This is why I prefer having only one life but multiple hitpoints. If you can only take one hit before dying, then there's no margin for error, and that's just plain insane. That's not to say I don't play the shooters with the one-hit nonsense (there are a lot of them; 19XX, AeroFighters, GigaWing, blah blah blah...); they rule too. But like I said, I prefer making a mistake, taking a bullet, surviving it, and continuing to kick the crap out of everyone over making a mistake, taking a bullet, dying from it, and having to continue with crap powers.
