Most unusual character played in a RPG

Post by Narf the Mouse »

Mine would be a somewhat tame awakened feline female psion (Say that three times fast!). Very fun character to play; snarky, most intelligent in the group (Literally; Headband of Smarter Than You guarenteed that) and very willing to remind everyone of that fact.

In other words, a typical cat.

Also, not a pet. Not unless you want to be missing something important...(Actual, in-game threat. There's advantages to playing such a character... :D )

HAS to be RIFTS characters. I once played a mutant squirrel time-traveller (a la TMNT Transdimensional) cyberknight in a RIFTS campaign. And Alina played a Dragonwolf Technowizard in another game. RIFTS is the king of bizzare characters.

...How 'bouts we introduce a Setting Normal Modifier?

That is to say, in a normal humans game, six fingers is unusual. In Paranioa, 'Trustable' would be downright crazy.

(Not trying to put down your character; just that 'wierd' does depend on what's viewed as 'normal' :) )

That being said, what's your wierdest character(s) for the setting you were playing?

My Christian Vampire demon-hunter in Wushu was a little wierd. Unfortunatly, the game didn't last.

Ran a vampire game where one of the characters starting treating his stomach like a well-hidden satchel. Cut himself open, shove a few handgrenades and other things in, heal up the skin... I couldn't decide whether his body would eject the items or not and allowed it for lack of a good argument.

Very wierd, though. Indigestion like you wouldn't believe.

Most of my characters are pretty vanilla. I generally run the "status quo" characters with a minor unique twist.
That doesn't make me boring, does it? :eyebrow:

Not as long as you play them interesting. :)

Technically, all Flinx (The Alan Dean Foster character) is, is a rogue with Empathy (Unreliable) and Exotic Pet (Deadly) traits. Break him down into just that, and you've barely got a plot hook. :)

I was running a silly little Rifts game in high school and one player had a character that was a TMNT mutant raptor who gained different super powers from snorting Kool-Aid packets.

I ran a Heroes Unlimited game with a villain with Superspeed. He was a redneck southerner named White Lightning.

I'm trying to think of weird characters that I played in other people's games but the best I'm coming up with is Brockozuna, and I already told most of his story.

As a side to this thread, RPG characters can have really cool names. Especially Werewolf names from White Wolf's Werewolf: the Apocalypse.
Here's some examples.
Glass Walker Fitness nut: Climbs-to-Nowhere
Get of Fenris truck driver: Rolling Thunder
Fianna Ahroun: Drunken Fury
Mute Ahroun: Speaks With Rage
Glasswalker gambler: Ups the Ante
Bone Gnawer criminal: Big Score
Wendigo risk taker: Walks Thin Ice
Crippled Get of Fenris Theurge who keep surviving battle after battle: Denied Valhalla
Bone Gnawer street kid: Runs With Scissors
Glasswalker monkey-wrencher: Cooks The Books
All characters that have been played in LARPs and tabletop games here in Saskatoon.
A Zen Koan:
A Master said unto his Student,
"I Own you, Bitch. Know this."
And the Student was Owned,
And Knew it.

Shadowlord Ragabash - Fades to Black

The most unusual character I ever saw was a awakened badger druid.

I posted in our Rifts OOC thread about a Robotech character I used to play who went into the world of Rifts and ended up with the symbiotic suit of armor that the Riathenors from Aliens Unlimited wear. What I didn't mention was that when he was in the Robotech universe, the Invid had captured him at one point and done some experimentation on him.

If I remember correctly, they ended up giving him a 6' lizard's tail, the strength of a large mammal (with the disadvantage of being covered in fur/hair--think Sasquatch) and some other modification that I can't remember. The overall effect was that he was stronger and faster than a normal human, but he was absolutely freaky looking. The symbiotic armor ended up being more of a blessing than a curse, since it hid some of the disfiguring features. The tail stayed, though.

So, pre-symbiote armor, you can think of it as Sasquatch with a lizard's tail. Post-symbiote armor, think "Predator" with a tail.

Been playing RPG's for so long that I pretty much random everything, even games I GM. To keep my DMing interesting, I improv to roll and create everything ingame and net it together, very little prewriting.

Anyways, most interesting character ever is one that got rolled for my latest DnD game I was involed in.

I ended up rolling a half orc wizard. I got an 18 in strength so boosted to a 20 and 18 in int, dropped to 16, darn orciness.(boosting that with stats so now it is 18). Specialized in abjuration, prohibited for evocation and necromancy. No fireballs for my character. I ended up taking a level in Barbarian so he could rage and use simple and martial weapons. Choice is a guisarme, great axe and longbow comp. Combine permanency for enlarge, and choice skill selection makes it main dps melee fighter. was pretty funny when I took on an ogre at lvl 5 one on one and beat it. Skills chosen are now allowing me to spring attack and whirlwind. also have quick draw. throw in a couple of buff spells and special gear, he can move 30 ft, attack with reach of 20, then jump back another thirty hitting with a strength of 32!

In all honestly, how many people have played campaigns where using only the core rule classes, skills, etc (I never use outside of them, too much of a traditionalist) have had their magic caster as main tank?
one lvl barbarian, rest lvl wizard. Str 20, int 18. Spell book in one hand, greataxe in other.
I mean really? Is there a better half orc?

Probably Most Unusual, and Favorite Character was from 7th Seas.

He was an Inish (i.e. Irish) Glamour Mage with the Good Fellow School. By the Name of Morgan Folke

Now All in all he wasn't so unusual, Red Hair, green Eyes. wearing Garishly bright colors and talking out his ass the whole time, about how the Obannon could kick anyone elses Ruler's ass.

The Main thing Unusual about him was the phenomenal luck I seemed to have with him.

As a Glamour mage He got more power the more well known he was. So I made the decision after creating the character that I would do at least one phenomenally difficult or stupid Feat of skill a game.

One game where we fought against some strange mantis like creature.. I banked a shot off two metal surfaces to the back of the creatures head. TN 40 I think was the level the ST set for. The ST thought on rolling 5 and Keeping 3 Dice I wouldn't make it.

Another Game he dived from the Crows nest of One ship into the rigging of another we were fighting with. TN 40 again cause I'm not gonna do that sort of thing again.

Yet another, to show off to the Crew of the Ship we were on... my character walked to the bow of the ship... took note of the wind and speed. Fired his Shot into the air and caught it on the way down. TN 50, Yet again the same Roll 5 Keep 3

Plus it was fun to play a Character who got horribly sick and weak when he was more than a mile from the Coast. the Same Character was given a chance to have some Court worthy stylish clothes Made, and when he was told to look around for Fabric he liked, he ended up initially settling for the drapes in the tailors shop, before the people there finally said, don't worry we'll pick out something appropriate for you.

It was terribly fun to play, and I may have misspoken his malady.... He got weak and sick when he was more than a Mile from the Ocean. being Magically tied to the ocean and all.

Well I have been discussing a wheelchair bound Toreador who is scruffy, scraggle bearded, knows chuff about art, music and the like but who goes to gallerys and operas and passes judgement in no uncertain terms on what he likes and doesn't like.

The kind of guy who comes out of the latest Damien Hurst exhibition and says quite unashamedly "well that was waste of time, I could s*** better art than him. Lets get a curry." or after going to a classical music concert "Beethoven, Mozart? I'd rather listen to Chaz and Dave" Who thinks Picasso was obviously drunk and Dali was a bleeping idiot.

I'm thinking of the cultural equivilent of a Vogon, A low brow philistine, the very apogee of bad taste.

Which should be a laugh.

Other's characters: The two Swedish Ventrue farmers who lived outside the city in their old family farm (they had some agreement with the werewolves, I'm not sure what they offered to be elft alone), where they sold dairy products. They appeared in colourful farmer's clothes, and spent the night talking about potatoes, their possibly ghouled and the lack of night-open manned gas stations.

Hey, welcome to the new Forum-ite! Weregeeks of the world, UNITE!

On topic: God, I could talk for DAYS about the weird Vampire characters people come up with. How about the mexican wrestler vampire-hunter, who sweats holy water so his wrestling moves do aggravated damage? Or the Brujah who wears magic invisible storm-trooper armor? Or the classic parapalegic character who uses Possession or Astral Projection all the time, thus keeping his body safe from all possible harm? Yikes.

My half orc stated previously, just got even more discusting....

Weretiger lycantropy...

I now have a wizard, level 9 that when hybrid has strength of 20b + 4 bulls st +2 enlarged + 4 rage + 12 hybrid/animal for a total strength of.....

42! so base attack/damage bonus of +21 and reach of 20ft with a guisame. It makes me feel kinda sick almost that my wizard is the melee damage dealer of the party. I am the death, and everybody else now just acts meat shield. All random too... no power gaming and without magic items.

I usually GM more than I play, so I have seen more strange characters than I have played so I only have a roster of 5 or 6 characters I've played over my gaming career.

Probably the most unusual was The Black Fox, a half orc monk who fancied himself a Super Hero. All his magical items were geared towards this, he had an appearance obscuring mask, spider climb boots etc. Lots of stuff to mimic super powers. He also had a battle cry and tended to leap into action from great heights. Only got to play him for a single session before the game collapsed though.
