Just thought I'd note: my 'no clouds' observation doesn't necessarily apply to all of Iraq; where I was stationed, we had a fair amount of clouds and humidity because we were quite near to the Tigris.

Also, my speech color is brown. Thanatos, yours in indigo, right? And the inspection mirror I'm using is the kind dentist's use, in case there's any ambiguity. Not really standard operating procedure to use one for peeking over berms, but it seems the sort of thing I'd do in the situation.

I know deserts do get clouds. :) There's just none visible to you from the crater.

Yes, it is, Dustman. Thanks for the brown, I have CG on a black background (easier on my eyes), and yours looked kinda maroon-ish.

I inserted a short description of my char in the IC thread, for reasons explained there.

Amount of cloudiness in a desert would normally have to do with how close we are to the leeward side of the mountain, as well as the standard synoptic condition for the area.
See? The E4 test turned all the weather-ey parts of my brain on, and I can't turn them off!

Actually, I have taken those general concepts into account - It's just that from the bottom of the crater, you really can't see the horizon.

Also, what's a 'two and four' haircut? Wikipedia doesn't seem to know.

Just like a one and two, except double the length.

Try think about a longer-haired marine for a second, would probably be a half-decent way to describe it.

Oh right, you guys have to take written tests. We just have to take oral tests and make ourselves look pretty for E5 and above. Thanks for the weather info, by the by; I just assumed our cloud cover had something to do with the river.

Um...In my dazed state due to a cold, did I mention a river somewhere?

Huh? Oh, no, I was talking about the one in Iraq. When I said "our cloud cover," I meant mine and my unit's in real life.

That makes sense.

I'm not the best at estimating what things look like at a distance, but I think at that distance they'd bear a distinct resemblance to gray blobs with legs

Written tests from E-3 all the way up to E-7, I'm not sure how advancing as a Chief works. E-1 through E-3 is simply time-in-rate.
Also, the river would be a major synoptic component.

Also: As a warning to Bellmaker - your charecter will be forced into the pit if he doesn't begin hiding on his own very soon.

Um, I know I'm not part of this game, but I thought I'd point this out on Bellmaker's behalf:

Said the pieman to Simple Simon "Show me first your penny."
Said Simple Simon to the pieman "Sir, I have not any!"

Hey, Bellmaker, you forgot to answer David's question about what else you saw up there before you answered my question about cover. I'm assuming your character is Dr. James, so that means you saw the green lizard thing over on the ridge. If you're roleplaying forgetting to mention it because you're too stressed out, that's cool; just wanted to make sure it wasn't a simple oversight.

Nope, I am Dr. Joseph. The only James is Thanatos, but my MIDDLE name is James. Maybe Narf got mixed up? Otherwise, no, he did not see.

Since you're the only one who rolled decent on the perception check, I'd assume it was a name mixup, but yeah, we should probably wait for clarification.

Also, he's not James, I'm James. He's David. Unless you're saying his last name is James, in which case we're all three named James to some degree.

Oh, dear, this is so unnecessarily confusing...

...I just got back from checking the IC thread, and yes, you are correct. YOU are James, and THANATOS is David. Got you two reversed, sorry.

My decision on sprinting might have played out a bit differently if I'd known about the evil scaly thing on the ridge. Just thought that was worth noting. Then again, if I was faced with a carnivorous elephant and a komodo dragon I know where my thoughts would be, so I can't really blame Dr. Joseph for failing to mention the latter.

Here's hoping I don't get us all killed XD

Well, I'm not planning on a TPK, but I'm not planning on making allowances, either.

What's TPK stand for? I'm guessing the PK part is player kill. Mmm... total player kill?
