Robert Jordan

Post by LordofArcana »

I read today on the Wizards website that Robert Jordan, the author of the Wheel of Time series, has passed away.

He has indeed, and it is a sad day for all of us WoT readers. The podcast on his website brought a friend of mine to tears, and the blog announcement is equally heart-wrenching. In related news, I'm fairly sure another one of my friends will now go absolutely insane because he won't know what happens. A sad day.

I've been following WoT for upwards of a decade now, which is a scary thought. The first book was basically my introduction to epic fantasy (before I even read LotR), and I've been infecting my friends with it ever since. Don't know what I'm going to do without new additions to that series looming constantly over my bookshelf.

Robert Jordan saw this coming and was prepared. He was working hard to get the last book finished in one volume. He swore there would only be ONE MORE BOOK no matter how big it had to be. If it came to it, he told his fans to come to release day with a hand truck and strong friend to get the thing out of the book store. Before he received his terminal diagnosis (which actually estimated he'd die at least a year earlier, good on Jordan for that) he had planned to write two more prequel books and one or two books for the grand finale. All of those stories will be included in the last book.

He crafted a thorough outline for his wife to follow should he pass before finishing the writing himself (as he has). I don't know how long she will take but I am absolutely sure that the final book will see the light of day... eventually.

Yeah, its sad he's dead really. i read all his stuff, thought it went a bit downhill after about six or seven, but there was no doubting the epic vision.

I'll certainly buy the last book, hopefully it'll tie everything off nicely.

Anyway. RIP Robert Jordan.

R.I.P. Robert Jordan. Thank you for your excellent novels. :(

Does anyone know what was going on between him and Red Eagle Entertainment? I read on his blog that he was angry with them, and Red Eagle's website is devoted to a memorial to him.
