Superhero LARP?

Has anyone ever heard of a superhero Larp? (other than RPG/gaming convention stuff) I've played in a hack n slash fantasy Larp for a few months, but got bored with it.
I'd love to try a Larp in any other genre... Lovecraft sounds intense, but I don't have the complexion for Vampire (I'd make a pretty good werewolf, though) so I think a superhero or even Shadowrun style Larp could be pretty cool if run properly.
So has anyone heard of such a thing? Or have any interest in trying it?

Actaully a superhero LARP sounds pretty cool I would be interested in trying it at least once. I would just hope for weather powers ^_^. Also it would be fun to do the whole good vs. bad thing and see how that goes being a supervillian now that would be fun.
I AM a supervillain.

I've got a couple of supervillain halloween costumes (Doc Ock and Captain Cold) from previous Halloweens... I figure something could be adapted from Mutants and Masterminds D20 system. If I have some time, I might see if I can put together a Meetup.com group for Philly/South Jersey folks who might be interested in trying it.
It's weird... it seems so hard to find superhero roleplayers in my area, yet I live in the most densely populated state in the union. Everyone's so into fantasy, but I've been doing D & D for nigh on 20 years now. I need a break!

xaq has done a few Shadowrun LARPs, and I'm sure he or Alina'd be delighted to post a link to pictures of the LARPs that he's run. (that's your cue guys!)
A superhero LARP would be so much fun...but not being able to play Superman would be a bitter pill to swallow.
Man I'd love to see the costumes for a Superhero LARP. That itself would be half the fun.

Actually, a superhero larp is the only one I haven't tried yet - probably because although we try to stay fit, few of us have actual superhero bodies.

That's why I like supervillains. Doc Ock never bothered to go to the gym. Captain Cold sat around getting drunk all day. Satan likes pastry.

A superhero LARP would be awesome. More excuses to re-use cosplay pieces from conventions.
I voted for Lovecraft though. LARP is much more personal and horror is always better when its personal. I picked up the Cthulu Live Action book on a whim awhile back and I recently saw a supplement at a used book store. I'd love and excuse to buy it and some friends to play it with.
I just need to get more than a couple of my friends into Lovecraft.

I voted cyberpunk.
You gotta admit a something: Easy costuming, especially for people with wardrobes like mine.
Plus, I'd love to see how hacking and massive gunfights would work. (Give everyone a nerf gun and a room with plenty of cover and scatter?)
I've never been LARPing, as I've mentioned, and my current location runs kind of counter to doing so (Navy base in Japan).

The guy who made this poll has been playing Dungeons and Dragons for longer than I've been alive.
This, combined with the AMAZING LARP costumes, makes me feel like my signature ought to include the words "I AM THE NOOB!" in orange.

Thanks for making me feel like an old fart. But I'll do you one better.
I played REGULARLY since 1990.
I STARTED playing officially in 1979 when my mom (yeah, you heard me - she rocks) gave me the D & D Basic set - the old purple box. Still have the remnants around here somewhere. There's a middle school about 15 minutes from me that used to have Saturday "classes" for stuff... basic programming (TRS-80 - woo hoo!), cooking, and of course: Basic Dungeons and Dragons and Advanced D & D. I played with those folks for about 2 years and then really just dabbled with a couple of friends over the next several years.
So, all in all, I've technically been playing for 28 years.
Thank the gods there have been a few kind ladies over the years who were nice enough to provide me some physical affection... a 35 year old D & D playing virgin is almost as sad as a 40-year old virgin.

I'm torn between Cyberpunk (love the genre) and Lovecraftian (occult horror is good, when done well), assuming that one would have a good group/locale for it.
I defy someone to manage a decent larp of any variety in a standard apartment without loosing some flavor. Someone needs to make a sort of adult jungle gym/set of Aliens/ paintball arena-esque spot for this type of thing.

That's why I run Shadowrun at local bars/nightclubs (as evidenced by the pictures above). At least the ambience feels Cyberpunk-ish.

Okay, now you're just making me feel bad. In 3 more years I'll BE a 40 year old virgin.

You might want to seek professional help.
Not a shrink, though... try the Bunny Ranch outside of Las Vegas.

I think the RPGA has a slush fund for that....
You get access after being a member for 20 years.

Hey, where's the "ANY!" button?
Anyway, I voted other. Why? Well, apart from the above, I can think of at least two intriguing possibilities that don't quite fit with the others. The first one would be a sort of space-opera-esque thing. You know what I mean? It's not exactly cyber-punk, because it doesn't take place on earth and doesn't involve mohawks; it would be more of a Firefly or Honor Harrington kind of a feel. I guess Star Trek could apply, but man, those jumpsuits... they're just not for me, sorry.
Oh yeah, and the other one: Steampunk! Come on, man, brass goggles, steam-powered walkers, the anachronistic zapgun, it's got potential. But then again, I have to bring up two points: I don't know of any steampunk-style RP rules, and I've never LARPed before. Hence the desire for an "Any" button.

Hell yeah! Steampunk would totally RAWK!!!
