Yeah, I know.
I just want to know your policy when specifically searching for traps. I assume all other take 10s, take 20s, and assists on a search roll are legal.

Was talking to the other person. :)

Yes, you can take 10, you can take 20, you can assist. Hey, if you want, you can even use tactics! :D

(Cause my last D&D party sure didn't...Until *AFTER* we caused an apocalypse...)

Tactics in searching for traps:
1) Tell the guy with the most hitpoints to open the door.
2) Have the mage walk in front of the party, prodding the ground with his quarterstaff.
3) Throw the gnome at it
4) Throw a monster at it.

In that order.

Tactics for combat:
1) See the monsters.
2) Fireball the monsters.
3) Charge the monsters.
4) Nearly die. Occasionally loose a PC. Who cares? We got Raise Dead! (Then Res and True Res)
5) Win anyway.

One PC went through about five different races due to Reincarnation and wierd spells. Started out a kobold, ended up a silver dragon.

I prefer:
1) Sneak up on monsters
2) Position party
3) Rogues sneak attack
4) Drop fireballs
5) Charge
6) End surprise round

Hey, it was a fun game. Bouncing from near-distaster to near-distaster makes for some dramatic moments.

Personally, I'm getting the impression that this is a foyer or a sitting-room. Y'know, when all the peasents and minor nobles came to pay tribute to King L, they had to wait to be allowed in, and something so extravigantly expensive and masoned would be a minor power play against the viewer's senses.

The iron door could very well be warded/trapped, and quite possibly locked.
Of course, anything other than a self-resetting trap is probably disarmed from long ago, or already set off, becuase nasties do occasionally pour out, and it is the only entrance. Other traps may have been rigged by retreating nasties. If its been made their "home base" of sorts, I can see no reason to assume its not locked, becuase they would have the key.
The twisted weapons and battering ram would support my thoery, an different band of adventurers probably used them to attempt to force entry. Whether or not they succeded is yet to be seen, although from the lack of corpses, its not unlikely that they at least got past the door, if not much further than that.

Thats my interpretation, Jakob's probably wouldn't be too far of, and is prolly slightly more insightful (Higher INT, cat burgler, and noble upbringing - not to mention living in-period, whereas we live in the "modern world" work in his favor).

A thousand pardons my dear. I couldn't find a link to your toon like everyone else had, so I didn't include it in the summary. I'll edit my post right away.

There, fixed. Now we're all in one place.
Party order. Jakob and Terra on point followed by Korgan, Simon, Ellimist, Aeron, Elana and Dareth in a rotating squad followed by Rowan as rear guard?
Elana (she has Terra's torch) and Rowan have torches lit and held up for illumination. The torches give us a 20' diameter of illumination.
Updated!

YES!
Two things are going well, here.
One: We're forming up in a semi-tactical manner
Two: My habit of coloring my charecter's words (Which I picked up on a seperate site) is leaking out into you guys!
^.^
And, I have CG set for a black background, so everything contrasts SO well.

Yeah, I really like the idea of coloring the spoken text of the characters. You can almost tag a voice to each of them when you read it.

And tactics or paranoia, either work well at the moment! ;)

Yeah, I've been doing that in forum RPs (free-form, more like story-writing, seperate site, easier to color text, VBulliten format) since I was a freshman in High School.
Its spoiled me a bit, but it does break up the monotony, is usually pleasing to the eyes, and helps the mind process the differance between actions and speech.

For my more literate threads I am in on gaia I do that as well. Keeps characters seperate and also actions as well. Plus it is an easy way to say oh so and so is talking.

I just never thought of doing it in this forum because my posts were on the shorter side, but hey join the mob ^^

Wait, literal roleplays actually exist on Gaia? I gave up on finding them, my account has been dormant for well over a year, quite probably (I lost count).
I do, however, remember intentionally selling all of my stuff and buying all-grey peasent garb.

Yay, mob rules!

Now:
Lets get our kill on!

Yes gaia does have literate roleplays you just have to search for them is all (and sometimes that takes a while).

Awe man and you sold all of your stuff on a year old account XP drat so much for asking for your pixelated shinies ;)

If someone wants Terra to protect them just shout .... she kinda just stood near the door thinking bad things are comming out of it.

I'll do the coloured stuff for my speaky parts now too. I wasn't doing it before , because I assumed it was more complicated than it was. :D
Now I know! YAY!

So, if Korgan, Terra and I triple loop the rope around the door loop, that should keep the rope from breaking.
Jakob and Aeron cover us with archery, and Dareth and Elana holding the torches, that leaves Ellimist and Simon left. I assume Simon will join the archers and Ellimist and his wolf (with it's SWEET trip attack) will be able to jump anything that survives the archery.

Sound like a plan?

Yo, JOE!

That plan is battle-tested, and rogue approved. On a note as to party dynamics, Rowan and Jakob both seem to be equally "take charge", or maybe its just that thunderhowl and I have no lives.
I would gladly give party leadership over to the swashbuckler, though. I'm pretty sure an "esteemed leader" situation will come up. They always do.

To introduce something that's worked in other games, when posting, how about posting something like 'Post pending' first, and then editing? It helps keep things understandable.
