Wow, sure has been quiet here this week. Time to stir things up a bit!

What is your favorite video game of all time, and why? Go!

* * *

Hands down, mine is Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I love, love, LOVE this game. It's still the only game I've ever played through in its entirety multiple times, and I never get tired of it. What makes it so great? Hard to say exactly, since there's so much I love about it, but if I had to nail it down, I'd have to say the story. It's not the most complicated story, or the most inventive, but it's enough to keep you moving through the world, meeting new and interesting characters, without being to heavy-handed. Plus, it features the most badass Ganondorf of the entire series. I want to go play it again now...

Other contenders include:

- LOZ : Majora's Mask
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- We Love Katamari
- Jak II

I never got into consol gaming so all my favs are strictly PC with a decided bias towards turn-based strategy.

Civilzation, StarCraft, Age of Empires, etc..

Do wierdly addictive flash games likeflOw,
onslaught or Tower Defense count?

Mario Bros. But then, that's rather redundant.

A couple of indie gems can be found at http://www.knightsoft.ca

A couple of my favorites include American McGee's Alice and Clive Parker's Undying. How fortuitous that when I bought them they were bundled together for one low price. ^_^

I have a soft spot for Master of Magic. And everyone knows of my love of City of Heroes and by extention, my love of punching evil.

I also have at least two versions of the theme song from the Original Legend of Zelda on my laptop. Just the song brings back fond memories.

I'm also loving the online game Kingdom of Loathing. It's awesome. Very fun AND funny.

Ocarina of Time was pretty much the only Zelda game I ever managed to get into.
It's really hard to pick a favourite of all time though. Looking down the barrel of a gun being forced to pick one though I'd say Revenge of Shinobi for the Mega Drive (or Genesis in America).

If it's more recent games then I'd have to go with the two God of War games or Knights of The Old Republic.

I gotta go with Dynasty Warriors 5 (or maybe Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires, heh). The mass combat against the epic background of China's history is a perfect mix for me. I can play it over and over again without getting tired of it. Empires could outweigh it if I owned it (played it a lot at my friend's house), it gives my brain a slightly better workout.

I have other games I love like FF6 and Katamari and the Silent Hill series (3 being my favorite) but Dynasty Warriors still gets more play time.

Splinter Cell, in all its incarnations.
Pandora Tomorrow was one of the best, as it stayed true to the first, without moving toward the combat orienation of Chaos Theory, but the PS2 version of Double Agent was awesome. (Gameplay was, in my opinion, alot better than the 360 version)

I like Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic. They're by the same people, and I can't really decide between the two.

I am a huge fan of Super Mario Brothers 3 ... nothing makes me more happy then playing that game. Heck my freshman year of college a guy friend and I would have a Super Mario Brothers 3 marathon where we would have to play all of the levels and boards, no whistles (later changed to no P wings also) and that would normally keep us up until 3am lol.

Other games I love playing Katamari Demacy ... something about rolling things up with random music seems to make me giggle, Soul Calibur III, Tetris, and the first sonic game.

final fantasy 3 (north america - aka ff6 in japan)

this is the most amazing video game of all time.

the characters are wonderful. the story is amazing. there are lots of alternate endings and easter eggs which add to replay value. there are side quests galore. the first time i played it some of the storyline stuff actually made me cry. AND, it has the best. soundrack. ever.

i also love chrono trigger, all zelda games (zelda 1 is the only one i haven't played multiple times), and many other rpg's as well. huge fan of puzzle games like tetris, dr. mario, bust a move, etc; and then for computer games i'm mostly in to RTS. and of course there's world of warcraft. but as much of my life i have invested in that game...it STILL doesn't beat ff3. ff3 for the EFFING win. Bah to storylines. Nothing more than a straitjacket that tells you what your characters are like.

I'll make my own, thank you.

Long Live Daggerfall!

I agree with my pack-mate jen.
FF3 is uber awsome, always named myself after shadow since he woud kill his own momma for a nickel, which reminds me next time i play though it again will have to name one of the characters after her.
Chrono Trigger is another one with great replay value.
Big fan of Mega-Man series.
Love Halo...super fun.
Big Fan of the Street fighter series, holds many fond memories of staying up all night playing agianst my cousins and brothers.

I think that is why i love SF, not only for the replay value but the memories it holds for me.

Myst and its sequels (except for Uru). Still haven't found anything better for me.
Closely followed by the Metroid Prime games, Zelda (especially Twilight princess) and American McGees Alice. Also, Dawn of War is the only RTS I've liked.

Master of Orion 2.

There's a number of others that I love to bits, but MOO2 is the only game that I've actually played almost 24 hours straight because I got sucked into what I was doing (and still didn't get sick of it).

I use an arcade game emulator for a few favs like Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat, Rush N' Attack and Sky Shark.

I still play Diablo 2 (and still holding out hope for D3!) on Battlenet.

I love first person shooters like Duke 3d, Blood, Doom 2 and Serious Sam.

For PS2 you can't beat Grand Theft Auto Vice City and San Andreas. Looking forward to the new Liberty City GTA IV in October... hopefully it'll be available for PS2, but I doubt it.

I think my favorite game is either:

Breath of Fire III: I don't know why, really, but I can't stop playing it whenever I get the chance to. It's got a great plot, good spells, graphics for a decently aged game, and it's funny!

Fallout: is the game I recommend to EVERYONE who mentions PC RPGs, beacuse you can't go wrong with it. It's got everything and the most twisted sense of humor ever. One of the kings of the genre.

Or... my secret vice.

Pipedream for the NES. Play it and see.

http://www.gametap.com/ can provide you with over eight hundred old and a few new games, all for under $10 a month.

A lot of their games are obscure, but there's some real gems.
