It's just that some forms of geekery aren't seen as such because they're the kind of things that "normal" people do.
My mates are mostly geeks but we hang out with reasonably normal - really excuse me for using that term - people as well and nobody seems to point it out or notice even when one of my mates wears pretty much nothing but video game themed t-shirts.
It was me by the way.
Keep this in mind. Geeky pursuits like video games and sci-fi movies like Star Wars are such an integral part every day culture now that it begs the question, "What's normal?"
Is it normal to participate in an office fantasy NHL Hockey League or is it Geeky? Or is it both? I would say it's both, but others would disagree with me. Just because someone claims that their geekery isn't geeky, doesn't make it "normal", ya know?
Basically, I wouldn't worry about it so much. You seem like you are happy with your friends, geeky and otherwise, and as long as they don't mock you or hassle you for your areas of geekiness, then you'll be ok.
As for the geeks who need to point out who is the more "hardcore" amongst them, just point out what I said. Everyone's a geek, deep down.
