I had a nifty idea the other day while browsing Youtube. There are some amazing geeks out there, accomplishing feats of nerdiness that deserve to be recognized. From the people who made a scale model of Helm's Deep out of candy, to the hilarious PvP guest-comic team-up of R. Stevens and Wil Wheaton, to a hardcore gaming granny, there are some inspiring geeky stories out there. And what better place to share those stories than here?
So, I figured we could do a Geek of the Week feature. You happen to find a great geek story? Send it to me (by PM or by email) and I'll post a new one every week! I've got one to start us off:
* * *
Now, even though April Fool's Day was last week, this guy still deserves a round of applause for one of the geekiest April Fool's pranks I've ever heard of. A man stood before the City Council meeting in City Creek on April 1st and delivered a straightforward, articulate speech in which he expressed concern over the city's "derelict emergency-preparedness plan". A few minutes into it, he revealed the cause for his concern - City Creek Center was negligently unprepared for a major zombie attack.
"Zombies are fierce," he said as a crammed council chamber laughed nervously. "They are going to catch us in there."
Now, anyone who is a fan of Buffy or Angel would have got the joke right away. I can even imagine the guy giving his speech in true Wesley fashion, not cracking a smile. Which is what makes it so brilliantly geeky, since who in a City Council would have caught the reference?
For sheer gall and wit, this guy deserves a round of applause.
I got the story off of Fark. The linked article isn't particularly well-written, but here's the link if you want to check it out: Salt Lake Tribune

You forgot to mention that his name actually is 'Wesley Wyndham-Price' - Although that's in the linked article.
Also, hilarious.
Also, hilarious.

For God's sake! That man gives an impassioned and articulate speech arguing for the safety of that cities residents and they laugh it off as an April Fool's day prank!?!
This is an outrage! A Zombie outbreak is a serious threat that everyone should be prepared for!

But what about leprechaun attacks? Our cities are just as vulnerable to leprechaun attacks!Thunderhowl wrote:For God's sake! That man gives an impassioned and articulate speech arguing for the safety of that cities residents and they laugh it off as an April Fool's day prank!?!

Don't dilute the issue Narf! Everyone knows that leprechauns are more afraid of you than you are of them.

Re: Geek of the Week!
That is the best April Fools idea I've heard for this year!
That being said, I think the REAL threat is the Tall, Slender, Anime Women. Their Coming for us with their magical powers, floating abilities, & general b*tchyness these sucbi will destroy us all.
They won't find me under my desk.......will they? 0.o
