Gamer recruiting
So I ran the D&D basic game for my brother and my Mom. My brother already likes RPGs, but I think I got my Mom interested - She just might play again! (I think it was the humour and smashing monsters...)

Hehe! Awesome! I'd never stand a chance of getting my mom or dad interested in D&D but I wouldn't be surprised if my brothers would be into it.

Said Simple Simon to the pieman "Sir, I have not any!"
Half-elves and golems and nymphs, oh my!

Well, one lives downstate, so it'd be hard to keep a game going with him. The other one lives close enough, but I've never GM'd before and don't really have the manuals to teach me how to do so successfully. Man those things are expensive!

You'd be surprised what brothers are up for. I had a group of my friends that I played DnD with in highschool until we graduated and one joined the marines. We had a campaign to finish and a free spot, so I grabbed my little brother (he was about 13 then). He got so into it that he was having me help him pick prestige classes for his barbarian last time we played. Even the other guys got into the act, and now any character he plays is called Ug, Thog, or something the like.

...Could make a fun character out of the name 'Something the like'.

Our little, _little_ ones saw a show about LARPers, and now they wanted to participate. Now we just need to find something child-friendly. ^^
The cool swords and monsters might have been the part attracting them. I'm trying to explain to them that such heroics are very uncommon, and offer alternate roles.

Thats funny, I try to teach some of my friends and they're all
"HISSS! DO NOT WANT! SPITTLE! COMPLICATED RULES!"
Then I try to explain how simple D20 is, and they cover their ears and start singing.
I have since given up.

...Run something really simple?
Like This?
(I mean, if your friends don't want to have to think hard, it's perfect)
Or This, which appears to be the successor.

Nah, it was for a LARP. Which in general seems a lot less heavy on rules. And why use a lot of rules when your 160 cm GM snarls and runs around the table?
I was just wondering about what to expect of kids, and what they might expect of the experience. The guys with a lot smaller kids just had them around the court, being tended in-game in a non-violent environent. And a big, comfy luxury tent.

My Dad joined the game this time and also admitted that it was kinda fun, even if his character did die.
