Potter RPG Anyone?
I'm a member of a forum dedicated to RPGs and the head of the forum is working on a system for RPing in the Harry Potter universe. She told me she's looking for some new faces who would be willing to help her beta-test this system for her and I immediately thought of you guys. Anybody interested?
BTW, sorry for advertising another forum here, and for posting something completely unrelated to the comic, but I thought there might be a few people here who'd like to try this out. And just to make this post at least marginally comic-related, I wonder what the crew in WereGeek think of the Harry Potter phenomenon?

Oooh, I don't know if I';d be able to keep up with any more online communities... especially once I start my D&D game and get into the hard core wedding planning (the date is April 12th, yay!)....
At the same time I've only gotten to play a couple of online RPGs via chat or forums (the one here is the one I've stuck with the longest). None of them have been Potterverse games, though a lot of my LJ friends play them.
I've always been a big HP fan.... I ran a Mage: The Ascension/HP fusion game once but it was not long lived. That's the closest I've come to playing. I'm so tempted...... we'll see how much time I have once my computers get moved into the new cubicle at work.

I think it depends totally on what the plot will be. Is Voldermort dead? How long after or before does it take from HP? Is it during HP? Is it just at Hogwarts?
I think the idea in and of itself is neat for a roleplay. But the problem with them is that the plot can so easily make or break it.

I'm sorry Dave, I can't find this signature for you.

This'd be quite the crew to beta test something like that with, I think. I'm a n00b with the whole Potter universe (never read the books), but I'm always interested in new systems. I don't know how much time I'm going to have to game outside of the hole I've already dug with the Raiders, but I'd love to hear the premise for this.

Alright, I've got some info to pass along to you all regarding the Potter RPG. First of all, it does take place after the last novel, a few years after book 7. This of course means all the old favorites from the books will have graduated by then. As I recall, I believe the GM intends for all players to be new students enrolling at Hogwarts. Beyond that she was a bit tight-lipped as to what the plot is going to be, but knowing her I've no doubt she's got a really engrossing story/campaign planned out. She's good, but she's also strict. She doesn't tolerate neanderthals or slackers dragging down the storyline. Think McGonnagal. Rather fitting, actually, since she'll be both your GM and your Headmistress.
Anyone wishing to join or just learn more can find the current info on the game posted at the Wizarding World General Discussions forum at Waypoint Games. You will need to sign up for an account if you wish to post questions, of course. You can reach the GM on AIM under the username askanni blue.

Thought I'd post up a copy of the post the GM posted in one of the threads over on Waypoint, just to let people know what she's doing and give folks some incentive to go check it out.
It also means that anyone who gets in on this game should not discuss the particulars with anyone outside of the party and the GM. This game is intended to eventually be sold in stores, but if someone else gets hold of it and starts running their own campaigns in this system before Askani can sell it there won't be any way for her to sell it. All it takes is for the system to leak out there into general circulation and the game becomes unsellable, so take the warning about keeping the particulars of the game secret very seriously.
One thing this means is that all of you will have a better shot at getting in on this game than I will because I already game over there in a number of current RPs.GM Askani Blue
About Wizarding World Roleplaying
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Wizarding World is an attempt to bring the world of Harry Potter to d20 roleplaying. The system is still in it's beginning stages and is nearly ready for game testing to commence.
My intention is to build a system good enough to take to the publishers, so please don't mistake this for simple fan gaming. As I hope to publish this game, all play testers are required to keep game materials in the strictest of confidences. With hope, you'll see this system on a game shelf some day.
People interested in play testing this system are welcome to post to this topic. All questions are welcome and all character ideas will be considered, but there will be a limited number of player slots to fill. With this being a test game, I don't want too many players in the mix.
People new to my games have preference over those I'm familiar with, so that I can really see what this system can do (or won't do). The wild card effect of new players is a factor strongly needed for testing. Also, players with no experience with either traditional (stat) roleplaying OR with Harry Potter also have preference. I need to know that this system will be enjoyable to people other than the Harry Potter fans that also roll dice. Still, those who are old dice jockeys and love Harry Potter shouldn't feel as if they don't have a shot. In short, I need an eclectic mix of players.
