Completely new to life

Post by Spyder_V »

Haha, well not really, but I'm definitely new here. I looked around, but saw no real intro thread, so I apologize in advance if this is incorrect.

Hoping it isn't, my situation appears to be that of some others who come here (maybe no frequently, but whatever). I fell upon this comic while trying to start my own and loved it. I've been into Roleplaying for a while, but the farthest I've gone as far as actually playing is doing an online RP about Naruto based on a system the community created over time.

I have a D&D Basic Game kit and the GURPS Player handbook (along with GUPRS for Dummies haha). Anyways, I haven't found anyone around to play with and was hoping to do some RPing online... but, I see that the campaigns here are already started.

Any chance that there may be some in the near future? How would I go about joining one? aaaaaand lastly, since I am a completely noob, is it alright if I join to learn or should I just sit back and watch for now?

Actually, introducing oneself is what the First Post thread is for. Nice intro though. Welcome to the forums! ^_^
Simple Simon met a pieman going to the fair;
Said Simple Simon to the pieman "Let me taste your ware."
Said the pieman to Simple Simon "Show me first your penny."
Said Simple Simon to the pieman "Sir, I have not any!"

Enjoy reading the rules - looking around and reading other people's online games, but in my experiance, the best experiance comes from actually playing the game!

OH HAI! HOW U?!

*Ahem* Welcome to Life; we like to call it "The Big Apple" here in "The Big Apple," but that's mostly because I'm a Golden Worm and I like to Capitalize Things. Anyway, this forum's a good time if you like discussing fantasy stuff, random videos or quantum physics. As for the RP side, mind if I whore a couple of threads? Didn't think so.

If you wouldn't mind necromancing an old one that never finished, try Gotta Happen Sometime. It's just collaborative storytelling, really, but it was a good time I thought. I would resurrect it myself, but that's bad form. Much like shanghaiing newbies, mwahaha.

Now, seeing as how you've been involved in the development side before, you might want to check out these two threads:
Rules Thread
Main Thread
We're working on developing an RP system of our own, so if you want to build up some serious geek cred it's a good--if daunting--place to start.

Welcome, welcome. I am one of the people running a D&D campaign around, and would like to cordially invite you to watch and learn. i find that merely observing a group may lead to greater understanding of the game. you can find my game here: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtop ... 239&page=1
If I find that I have time, I may start a second group, running on a different day. If I do, you would be more than welcome to join.[/b]

Well, I'd like to thank all of you for the welcome. I will do as much observing and note-taking as I can haha.

And I will read your system and see if I have any decent input =P
Though I doubt I do haha.

EDIT :: After reading much of both threads, I find that you guys have a lot of amazing ideas. What I mostly do (by my lonesome) is make generic systems that could work with whatever type of campaign I may come up with.

Oh... haha, I forgot to mention that I had made a FFX RP looooong ago. I spent about a month or so developing the fighting system, and everything along with it. I got to play with my brother and a friend for about 3 weeks, which included about 4 hours or so each weekday haha.

Anyways, it's a bit late, I have a lot of homework to do for Monday (which I am kindly procrastinating 'till tomorrow), so I will probably attempt to sleep now... sadly though, I'll more than likely be scribbling away on a notebook with ideas and such for a generic system.

Please, feel free to share your scribbles with us! Also - You deal with different timezones, here. I for one, live in Japan, so Monday is tomorrow for me!

Don't worry. I don't plan to make you upgrade. i mean, i'm still using some 1st ed. mechanics in the campaign, so...i wouldn't worry

Haha wow, you are Waaaaaaay ahead of me. It's 1:24 here in Alabama.

Sadly, I'm still awake thinking of things... but I am tired.

I am still unsure about whether you guys want a generic system or to build your own... what would you call it... Universe?

Um, a bit of both I think. When I was coming up with the original design it was intended to be generic, but a good bit of my fantasy world crept into it along the way (incidentally, the Miasma is what I call my inner multiverse where all the stories happen). On the other hand, the communal goal for an eventual playtest would seem to revolve around a post-apocalyptic setting.

Ideally, I think we'd want to create something generic enough that it could work with any setting, but also develop a 'packet' to work with the starting campaign: i.e., post-apocalyptic earth.

Welcome to the madness...err, I mean forums, Spyder! Take a look around - there's some great gaming going on out there, and lots of other general geekery too!

You mentioned that you were looking to start up your own comic? Good to hear!! If you need any advice on how to get started, just drop me a line and I'd be delighted to gab about it.

I have started my own comic already, but sadly haven't had the time lately to continue it. Once I get my rythm going again, I'll continue it.
